For the second time this month, the Dodgers have made a record-setting free agent strike. Los Angeles is reportedly in agreement with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on a 12-year, $325MM contract. The deal, which is pending a physical, includes a $50MM signing bonus for the Wasserman client and does not contain any deferred money. It comes with a near-$51MM posting fee to the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball, bringing the overall commitment north of $375MM.

Fun money! Have to pay the cost to be boss I suppose. We should start to see some action with other pitchers now. I’d really like to kick the tires on Hader, we could really shorten the game by adding him. I’m not as enamored with Monty, but we would be wise to get another front line starter.

In an interview with John Denton, Bill DeWitt says the Cardinal payroll is pretty well set for the 2024 season due to financial uncertaintities. He said that there are also potential trades that could occur.

more excuses (payroll) and now the press is protecting the team with commentary about Bally's and the fact that the Cubs and Milwaukee have'nt improved. what cardinal fan sits and compares their team to those two clubs. We need to be prepared to compete against the Dodgers and Mets.

Now we pick up an ex-Red Sox/Rays VP. Another opinion/yes man for Moz. might be a
replacement for the GM so Moz has a scapegoat?

I live near St Louis and don't have access to Bally Sports on Dish Network as they took it off years ago. I have streaming on the side to watch sports but this has been going on even to the local fans for many years.

The commentary about Bally Sports is a good thing. Things get sketchy because Diamond Sports Group, the group that owns majority of Bally Sports Midwest has come up with deals for some teams but nothing has been signed yet. Amazon would like to pick up the Cardinals and Blues. It is just a mess because it would have to go through a bankruptcy court. I hope Amazon can pick up streaming for the Cardinals/Blues after this season to have another option.

MLB rejected the Amazon proposal...............

They rejected it because they don't want Amazon investing in Bally and bailing them out. I have no problem cutting out the middle man(Bally) in this case because they have been so crappy.

Win-win for both sides if it gets worked out

Blues will finish out this season and Cardinals finish out next season on Bally Sports. MLB will look to get Amazon deal by 2025

He worked with one of the Florida teams and by all accounts did a good job. Then he was hired by the Red Sox to replace Dave Dombrowsky, and ownership told him to slash payroll. It did not work out well in Beantown.
the birds arent exactly making it rain

MLB in the middle of any deal with Amazon Prime is not good for the mid to small market teams. thars just a delay strategy for MLB
to get paid.

Usually would agree but not all the Midwest teams have signed deals or received all of the money from Diamond(Bally). Small market teams and MLB will be making plenty of money on any broadcasting/streaming deal. It will be nice once every fan base can watch their team without the headaches.
