Might be stuck with Mikolas for a while yet. McGreevy is here and in the rotation but others who could be here are hurt at Memphis. Roby and Hence, who seem to always be hurt are hurt again and Matthews is as well. Need to get at least one of those guys healthy and pitching at Memphis before banishing the Lizard King to the back of the Pen. Leahy could maybe be a solution but he'd need some time to build up pitch count.

Mikolas is also a 10+5 guy, meaning he has a full no-trade clause.

Sonny Gray getting lit up again. Starting pitching has cratered. When you need 8 or 9 runs to win a ballgame that's a bad formula. I'm not sure if these guys can dial it back in, sure hope so.

Fireworks early! Looked like the pitcher was mouthing off after he hit Contreras.

THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cardinals win a crisp wetll played game by the score of 3-0 and take the first 2 games in this 4 game series....................

Miles Mikolas pitches his best game in a while with 5 scoreless innings for the win.......
Matz , Maton , Romero and Helsley finish off the shutout in convincing fashion with excellent control of the strike zone.......
Herrera goes 2-4......
Contreras with a 2-2 and an RBI.......
Winn goes 1-2 with 2 RBI's..................

Let's go for the series win tomorrow and the sweep on Sunday........a sweep of the Padres would catapult the Cardinals back thick inside the WC scenario...................

If Donovan gets traded, the other team would have to give up some pretty high level prospects to get it done. The pitching arms the Cards have available would be getting traded before I could see it happening with Donovan.

The Yankees just traded for a third baseman. I thought the intent was to move Jazz Chilsom to second. I agree Donovan should extract a high price.

Machado needs to be hit next inning. 1 pitch at Contreras face and another one that hits him.

Shildt takes the pitcher out of the game with no one on base and one out away from qualifying for the win...🤔

The Atlanta Braves acquired right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde and cash considerations from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

I'm guessing a buck twenty-five

Some money is also headed to Atlanta in the deal, with ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reporting the Cards will be covering the approximately $2.7MM remaining on Fedde’s $7.5MM salary for the 2025 season

high price for a freed up roster spot.................

Romero would probably love that, being from out here. He's been a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting much when we first picked him up. Would hate to see him go at this point, based on how he's developed and flourished as a Cardinal. He seems to fill a vital bullpen setup role that we've struggled to fill recently.

As for Helsley, I think you have to try and get as much as possible for him and then see if you can afford to bring him back next year.

There's no chance Helsley plays for the Cards next season. He's going to be worth like $12-15MM/yr probably for a 4-5 yr deal on the open market. Maybe more. Tanner Scott got $72MM/4 (AAV $18MM). I see zero scenario in which the Cards field a competitive offer.
