How much longer do we wait for Gorman and Walker to fulfill some of that "great promise?" Can't remember how long it took for Grichuk and Carlson.Oli was just asked a question about Gorman's defensive errors and he said " he has to execute "..........nuff said..............
I think we are starting to see JW turn that corner a little bit. His defense has been solid and he has been raking for a while now. Only about a months worth of said raking, but you have to start somewhere. JW is still only 23, Gorman a little bit older. How much longer do we wait for Gorman and Walker to fulfill some of that "great promise?" Can't remember how long it took for Grichuk and Carlson.
I'd like to be optimistic about him, but I find it hard. I'd love to see Gorman "turn the corner," due to his tremendous power. But his strikeout rate is sooooo disastrous I can't be optimistic there either. But he has slugged some no-doubters when he connects. It was that way with Grichuk but he just spent so much time on the injured list. When he was healthy, he combined tremendous foot speed with that long ball power.I think we are starting to see JW turn that corner a little bit. I wonder JW has finally found trust in some coaching.
I'm way less optimistic about Gorman. He has 30+ hr potential, but him starting against lefties is essentially a non-starter at this point and .235 against rhp isn't awesome either. I had hope he could be our mini Schwarber, but you can start Kyle against any pitcher. 50% of all pitches Gorman has seen are fastballs and sliders and he is hitting under .200 on those according data I cherry picked from baseball savant. Id like to see him stop getting under pitches when he barrels and just make contact. He is so strong, put that exit velo to use by just making contact.I'd like to be optimistic about him, but I find it hard. I'd love to see Gorman "turn the corner," due to his tremendous power. I think Gorman will be a useful baseball player and have a decent career. Probably never an everyday 3B, will DH a lot, but he has plus power and despite his strikeout rate his OBP is not terrible. His strikeout rate is actually down a decent amount this season (30% compared to nearly 38% last season) and his walk rate is improved as well.I'm way less optimistic about Gorman. I'm glad we are also seeing him at 3b. Can he improve? Sure, but to what extent? We are running out of places to hide him.
