Mikolas was mediocre at best last year and downright terrible this year. And we spent $40m for that. If you grab a vet off the scrap heap for $8m to come in and get beat around and eat some innings that's bad enough but to spend $40m for it you have to be the genius that is Mo. Can't wait for us to be done with that clown.

Fitting end to a POS year.
Swept by the cubs and shutout today.

Bye Bye Mo. Now the work can begin, hopefully by somebody who knows what the hell they are doing.

2023 - 71 w 1997 - 73 w
2024 - 83 w 1998 - 83 w
2025 - 78 w 1999 - 75 w
The 3 year stretch of 2023-2025 is the worst 3 year stretch for wins for the Cardinal as an oganization since 1997-1999. We are talking a period of 26 years. I am not a fortune teller. And I have no clue what next year will bring, but in my opinion it is time to see major changes in this roster.

Everything is fine.....goodnight...

Trea Turner wins NL Batting title with a historic low of .304 avg........

Alec Burleson finishes 5th with a .290 avg........great season Burly......

Brendan Donovan finishes 9th with a .287 avg.....good season filled with injuries......

Congratulations. But .304? Whatever. Congrats nevertheless. Good for Turner.

I always think of Ted Williams' 1941 season. Goes 6 for 8 in a double-header last day to finish .406. His .3995 BA before would have been rounded up to .400 had he sat out the last day. But no way he would do that.

Some will say pitchers then weren't as good as they are now; I say "Baloney!"

Non sequitur: Teddy Ballgame was John Glenn's wingman during the Korean War, and he was a Marine aviator in WWII. Missed a few major league seasons.

Josh Jacobs is slashing the 40 man roster over at Redbird Rants.

14 Cardinals who won't survive Chaim Bloom's offseason overhaul

Zack Thompson
Sonny Gray
Lars Nootbaar
Miles Mikolas
Yohel Pozo
Nolan Arenado
Michael Siani
Willson Contreras
John King
Matt Koperniak
Roddery Munoz and Jorge Alcala
Nick Raquet and Anthony Veneziano

As I look through the list Mikolas is already gone. I don't see them re-signing him for any amount of money. Whatever the vet min is, they can get a kid to achieve the same results for 1/5th of the cost.

Thompson will be given a little room to show that he bounces back from injury.

Gray, maybe. I see them hanging on to him at least through the start of the season.

Nootbar will remain.

Arenado is interesting. They would like to dump his salary but in the end he stays too.

Contreras stays. Period.

John King, Matt Koperniak, Roddery Munoz and Jorge Alcala, Nick Raquet and Anthony Veneziano are all gone.

Is Bloom keeping Marmol as the manager, because he is still under contract? Or is he keeping him, because Bloom believes that he is the best manager for this situation? My uninformed opinion is that I would have thought Bloom would have wanted to make a strong statement by cutting ties with the previous regime. Many Cardinal fans view Marmol as a puppet of Mozeliak.

There's actually been tons of friction between Mo and Marmol at times. For example at one point last season, Mo brought Walker back up from Memphis because he was doing well down there, Marmol kept benching him. Eventually Mo had to back down and send Walker back to Memphis so he'd get regular at bats.

I think he's keeping him because he doesn't want to hire a new manager with a work stoppage looming in 2027.
I think that's the strategy for now. The rebuild will continue in 2026 and with a work stoppage looming why pay a mgr that's not managing? Marmol's deal is up at the end of 26 so a new guy can be hired after that. No telling how much season may be missed in 2027. I hope common sense prevails between the players and the owners (not likely) and they get something done next winter to avoid all that.

They're going to extend Oli, there's 0% chance they let him manage on an expiring contract, no one does that.

Also... who cares? Managers don't matter unless they're actively bad (read: Mike Matheny). Oli did a perfectly adequate job this year and the players didn't actively revolt against him, that's the best you're going to get out of manager with a middling roster to manage.

Probably correct. However, a possible work stoppage is not stopping other teams from changing things around without having an eye on the possible lockout in 2027.

I don't know how many of you are watching the Yanks/Sox, but alot of the BoSox are Chaim's picks including the starting pitcher, Connely Early.

Matt Holliday had a lot to say about Bloom's news conference. One of the better nuggets was: The Cardinals say they are going to try to win championships every year except for next year.
