You are right. Doubleheaders are a thing of the past. Follow the $$$. They only happen in case of a postponed game which gets rescheduled. And even that is extremely rare. I think Nate and Stan can lock up the trophy case.Nate Colbert. SanDiego Padres. I remembered the team, but Colbert's name escaped my memory momentarily. This record is hard to replicate obviously . However, since there are far fewer Sunday doubleheaders than there were in the 50's, 60's and 70's, the record may never be touched again.
I agree with all of this. You break it down well. O'Brien is still a mystery man to me, but so far so good. Gorman is looking good at 3rd base, and I keep hoping he'll unlock that enormous power at the plate.{ 22-15 }
THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........
Cardinals take the series opener from the Padres winning 2-1 in a very exciting game............
Liberatore with a Quality Start going 6 IP , 3 H , 1 ER , 6 K's for the win and is now 2-1.........
Soriano 1 IP , 1 H ,1 K....
Romero 1 IP , 1 K.........
O'Brien 1 IP , 1 K ...........Gets his 11th save..............he's filthy , nasty and pretty dam good.....he really really is.........

LET'S GO CARDINALS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, both are for sure rookie status through the rest of this year.Am I correct in thinking Church and Weatherholt are both rookie status? I like what I see in both.
This is another piece of historical information I ran ascross. Nate Colbert was supposedly in old Sportsmen Park the day that Stan Musial hit his 5 home runs.You are right. Nootbaar is the obvious upgrade - it was always going to be whoever wasn't playing well between Church or Scott to be jettisoned by Nootbaar. It should maybe be Saggese instead but he's the only plausible backup SS they have (Fermin can maybe stand there, JJ could stand there if they shuffled some other guys around).Team is exciting.
Need to upgrade Victor Scott in the outfield. Thank goodness nobody is talking about moving JJ to the outfield. They ruined Kolten Wang and Tommy Edman this way.
Bring Baez up. He is hitting .250 with 7 HR at Memphis. Scott is below the Mendoza line.
Maybe Nootbar will recover although I would trade him if he plays well.
We miss Brendon Donavan but it was the right thing to do.
Yeah, that was pretty cool. And make no mistake, the Padres have proven major league talent in that lineup.{ 23-15 }
THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.........
Cardinals pitcher's McGreevy , Graceffo and Stanek combine for a 1 hit shutout beating the Padres 6-0 and have won the first two games of this 4 game road series.............
McGreevy with career high 9 K's.............
Herrera with career high 4 hits...............
J J with a bases loaded single that turned into all 4 runs scoring............
LET'S GO CARDINALS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..............
This is how I remember it: Gussie Busch was the new owner of the Cards as of '53. It was also the first season of the Baltimore Orioles ( prior to that the St. Louis Browns.) Bill Veeck made that decision when Busch with mucho $$$ bought the Cards. So I think Sportsman's Park became Busch Stadium at the start of that year. It was a very difficult park to hit home runs; In deep left center and right center, I think there were fences at about 420 feet. The right field line was just 310 feet, but a screen out there rose to some 40 or 50 feet. Veeck, by the way, wrote a funny book named "Veeck as in Wreck."This is another piece of historical information I ran ascross. Gussie wanted to name it Budweiser stadium but MLB said no. There was no Busch beer at the time, so Busch stadium was okay. The next year he introduced Busch beer....This is how I remember it: Gussie Busch was the new owner of the Cards as of '53.
