St Louis Cardinals 2026

I am in favor of a floor and cap. Those proposed seem to be reasonable. I'd also like to see the revenue sharing be more like the NFL package but I doubt it happens.
Same. Wouldn't a floor actually put more money in the more players pockets? It would definitely cap the ever increasing top line players, but there is what I'm guessing a majority who would see a bump. I'm not the greatest at this and don't have the average salary data in front of me.

I see the clown pitcher from Milwaukee got a whopping 1 game suspension and an undisclosed fine. He’s appealing the suspension so they will probably drop that.

if this is real and the small markets have to pony up to these minimum salaries,
i want to know what they've been doing with all this cash for years. if they don't
have this cash, teams are gonna move! Welcome to Charlotte, Nashville, ..... who
else?

This time last year our birds were 28-23. A little ahead of the pace last year. This year they won’t have that disappointment of nothing getting added to help. I’m sure they all know
don't be so sure re: getting help unless its from our minors. i don't see us buying, probably selling and adding more futures. our minors are still well behind the competition and the new VP player personnel is all bout building depth in the 40 man and the minors. looking to the future, this team is a at best a borderline playoff team that just doesn't have the pitching to play for much.

I dont think any help is coming and I think that is the correct move. Last year, it was up in the air with zero stated goals. I think the front got some relief with that stretch before the all star break. I think my time is correct on the fall apart.
I have raised my expectation for this team. I still believe we are a 75-78 win team. I’m glad to be exceeding that right now. Sign me up all day every day.
I’ll be curious to see what they do with May. Also, Pages could bring a player or two. I still think teams value defense behind the plate and Pages has that.

One third into the season.

Good news

Walker. Seems to have found himself at the plate and has emerged as the go to guy in the lineup

Burly and Herrera. Have picked up where they left off last year.

JJW. Having a solid rookie season so far. Doesn't appear overmatched.

Winn. GG level defense.

McGreevy. Uses what he has very well and clearly learned from last year.

Libatore. Coming into his own as a starter.

O'Brien. Has been better than I expected in that closer role.

Bad news

VS2. Out of his league at this level. Needs to be back in Memphis

Gorman. 210 avg and 620 OPS is not going to cut it at a premium Off position, 2026 a repeat of the last 3 years.

Middle relief. Has shown signs of getting better but still a hold your breath on every pitch way to often.

Cardinals need to put someone other than Gorman at 3B and leave them there......Gorman is below average fielding and hitting......he has had his chances and has come up short............

Walker has had a very good season so far but had 4 K's at the plate tonight and was pulling off the outside pitches on every AB.......

McGreevy had a Quality Start tonight but was done in by a walk and a stolen base by their catcher who ended up scoring the winning run..........

JMHO..................

There is just not enough pitching to be any sort of serious contender. And there are too many holes at this point in the everyday line-up. I give them credit for what I would call overachieving 50 games into the season. I am with those, who do not believe that mangement/ownership will waiver from their stated objectives at the trade deadline.
