I’m sure that the contracts they’re signing have clauses in them to protect the businesses and donors. I’d guess his money is done coming in.So, any idea if TSJ's allegations impact his NIL deals?

Age of consent in Kansas is 16. But she was over 18
Yep, I don’t think we should be so quick to judge fans taking this news from a fan’s perspective.Well said. I know I speak for more than just myself on this board in saying that you are not alone in turning to Illini basketball as an escape from some of life’s more challenging realities.
I’d like to think this board itself provides that outlet, even when the team is disappointing. Sometimes it’s nice to have a shared passion to discuss with folks who aren’t interested or asking about the things we don’t want to think about.
I guess what I’m saying is, you’re right it sucks. But we’ve got your back. And hell, NW beat Purdue, so keep that thing circled.
It should be that way many peoples lives are being affected here. Whitman is an attorney himself and he knows that making ”quick” statements of any kind will only hurt someone. It’s gonna be a very carefully worded and carefully thought out presser. Better to get everything in order than just throw yourself in front of cameras and a microphone. Josh is also meeting with TJ.
Post of the day.Yep, I don’t think we should be so quick to judge fans taking this news from a fan’s perspective.
My son was born 12/21, and I was super excited to have 2 weeks of parental leave in January for our 3-person family to chill at home together … I’d be lying if I said watching an elite Illini team play wasn’t going to be an outlet for some of the stress and sleepless nights. An Illini game night will still be a big part of our family fun, but this is simply a shocking blow to that. I read this news in the Pediatrician’s waiting room this morning and about dropped my phone.
Does that mean my heart doesn’t break for the victim or for TSJ or both of their families or for the team, etc.? Absolutely not. But we all have different stresses in our lives, and most of us on this board have come together here because we REALLY love the Illini … Illini basketball is something we organize our precious free time around, and it’s understandable that many (especially at first) analyze this devastating news through that lens.
We all know deep down this is bigger than basketball. But it’s shocking news that I don’t think any of us can truly comprehend yet … and we all have an awful pit in our stomach.
Congrats on your bundle of joy. Best news to come out of this threadYep, I don’t think we should be so quick to judge fans taking this news from a fan’s perspective.

All I was implying was Friday night news is usually not good.Ok. But you implied that the Friday press conference was going to tell us something based on whether or not TSJ is kicked off the team.
They obviously would know what the accusation is. And they would have interviewed TSJ. Beyond that it is highly doubtful they know anything. The DA is not going to give them any information. I doubt TSJ's attorney even knows what all the evidence is at this point.
And they are going to kick TSJ off the team based on any of the above? I say no. Suspension until the court system plays this out.
I second all of this - but have a couple more weeks before my first will be hereYep, I don’t think we should be so quick to judge fans taking this news from a fan’s perspective.

Well said. I was talking with my dad last night and we had so much fun talking about this team and its success, especially given the current state of Chicago sports. Illini basketball is a way everyone here chooses to spend their limited free time, so it's natural for us to want the best outcome for our team and its players.Yep, I don’t think we should be so quick to judge fans taking this news from a fan’s perspective.

It's being handled in the criminal justice system as it should be.This is such an Illinois basketball thing to happen. Just as we're on an upswing, something happens to derail the season. I am not understanding why Whitman and Underwood didn't just indefinitely suspend him before the season began if there were allegations swirling. Did they not do their own internal investigation into the matter? This seems so off to me

Josh is the dryest most straight forward person I've met. Doesn't drink, awkward, I'd expect nothing less than the most air tight, professional, legal response you can get. It’s gonna be a very carefully worded and carefully thought out presser. In 2023, and especially in a case involving people in their teens and twenties, a significant part of the evidence for both prosecution and the defense is going to be digital records—texts and DMs that were sent, social media activity, photos, videos, phone logs, etc. All that data has to be subpoenaed from various service providers, whether its Google or Instagram or T-Mobile or Apple or whoever, and some of those companies are more responsive than others. And then someone has to sort through all that data. Plus I’m sure the DA applied for warrants to search the phones of everyone close to the incident, which again is a long process involving the courts and massive data dumps that electronics teams have to make sense out of. Honestly, you’d be shocked how often people exchange all kinds of messages back and forth following an incident in which they not infrequently try to apologize or make otherwise damning statements. The DA is also probably going to want cell site records which can place the parties either together or apart at certain times and locations which goes a long way towards corroborating allegations or not. Then there are things like medical records—again, that is a subpoena process that takes time. The fact the incident happened back in September and charges were just now issued is not uncommon. Sometimes it can take weeks, if not months, until lab work is completed, which includes DNA evidence. Many times, multiple witnesses need to be interviewed by law enforcement. Don't be fooled by what you see on CSI or Law & Order. Even though it is possible to obtain DNA evidence, it is not nearly as common as one would think or by what is seen on the TV shows. I hope law enforcement did a very thorough investigation. I also hope the prosecutor's office did a thorough review of the evidence. Since Lawrence is a college town, the police and prosecutors involved should have experience with sexual assault investigations. From my experience in these types of cases, alcohol and or drug use is involved quite frequently. Again, I know nothing about the facts of the case and have no inside information whatsoever. I'm just explaining what I have seen through years of handling these types of cases. I'm sure we will find out more information about the facts of the matter in the days to come.
Good luck, my friend! It’s special.I second all of this - but have a couple more weeks before my first will be here
May many others follow your wise example.Delete.
All of the following are absolutely valid, thoughtful, and substantial reactions to the TSJ news today. None are mutually exclusive of the others:The tragedy to this promising basketball season is irrelevant in contrast to the tragedies facing Shannon and the accuser.
Horrified by the reaction of many Illini fans. Immediately attacking the assistant district attorney in Lawrence in a desperate attempt to undermine the credibility of the charge is shocking.
My hope is that Shannon is innocent, but until then he should be treated like every other person charged with rape.

From what I understand, Icon has a contract with monthly payments for the players. No idea what clauses are in the contract, but I know it isn't based on playing as that isn't enforceable. I'd bet their individual sponsor deals are single payments and not affected, but would limit future deals. So, any idea if TSJ's allegations impact his NIL deals?
This is what you saidAll I was implying was Friday night news is usually not good.
I would assume we will know if Shannon is on the team still or not in 24ish hours from now.
