They haven't retired Chubby Phillips jersey??? WTF!

Lol on that. I am friends with Chubby though and during a discussion about this year's team recently, he actually told me he was embarrassed where the program has been the past few years and that he cannot believe Beckman is still the HC. I'm just a longtime fan with similar views, but he is a former standout player saying it.

I assume Butkus's number (50) is retired, but I don't know.

I had the pleasure of being at the game when Dick's jersey was retired and sat in the Chancellors box as the guest of a rich donor and Dick was in the suite then too. it was in the mid 80's.

That was that horrible Nebraska game, wasn't it?

Even though I like the traditional Illini logo I was surprised at the fact that I was actually really impressed by the new logo! I went to Champaign about a month ago and bought my first Illini shield apparel, although nothing will really compare to the original:illinois:.

Just saw a t-shirt online that Nike did to honor Grange. I like it a lot better than the jersey they are selling...

Found a neat webpage today that provides a database of NFL uniforms. Check out the Bears' uniforms from the 1938 season. Look kind of familiar?

I'm sorry. I do not like these orange helmets. That version of orange a nice idea but the orange on the helmets clearly doesn't match the orange in the uniforms. I think it stands out and clashes, which is frustrating especially after our rebrand was supposed to install consistency in colors and other things. I doubt they will change the color of the orange helmets to be like our old orange ones any time soon, I just hope we use the white and blue ones more.

Well, at least the nail is in the coffin for the Beckman era.

On the other hand, love the helmets and jerseys - at least we look good :)

Yep. On TV the helmets practically look red. Couldn't even tell which team was which when the game started tonight. Same thing vs. Nebraska. The helmets are cool but just do not match.

Between the uniforms, helmets, mid-field "I", and end zones, there are now 4 different shades of orange on the field at Memorial Stadium. Clemson, Tennessee, Texas, et al have figured it out. Why not Illinois? :tsk:

Is it a shock that the football program, as a whole, is just as disorganized?

You must need a new tv. I thought the helmets looked great and clearly orange.

Yea, they're 100% the same color as the rest of the uniform. It just doesn't look that way sometimes because of the surrounding colors. We looked great on TV and the AP pictures turned out even better IMO.

Also, did anyone catch when the announcers were talking about the gray uniforms? They said that Beckman told them something the day before along the lines of, "I wanted to wear them again this week, but it's just going to be a once/year thing from now on."

Gotta agree -- the helmet orange looks a perfect match to the uniform orange on every TV I've checked 'em out on.

I'm not a big shield guy, and I'm definitely not into the all-white fad throughout college football the last half-decade, but the Illini rebrand, to me, has been a home run ... or pretty damn close to it.
