What do you think should happen when the circumstances aren't normal?

I mean, are there actually Master's degrees in marketing?

The additional money they'd get from selling that stuff now and the few extras they'd sell now but not in a few months is not worth them rushing our order for the university over all other ncaa schools and the added production costs that come with it.

The rounded interior edges on the block I ... to me, unnecessary and silly. Looked better by far before. Same thing with the orange.

That helmet adds more potential inconsistency to things, not that a giveaway mini helmet should be read into too much.

But I've been wondering what happens to the I when it's a single color (no outline). I had assumed, based on the Victory Badge, that it would take the shape of the outline meaning it would be thicker and without curved inner corners.

But that helmet does the opposite and instead takes the inner shape, just dropping the outline.

I'll be curious to see which it is as we see more merchandise and if it's always consistent (even if it differs from the Victory Badge).

The monochrome Block I is among the "Nike-approved" Block I designs, but note that the "curve" doesn't appear - the outline is simply made to be the same color as the "inner-I" so it has right-angle corners.

Good find. And that is what I meant. I know the curve is technically still there, but for all intents and purposes it goes away or blends in.

But what's interesting is that's not the case on that helmet give away. Probably just a random mistake on a minor giveaway.

Yep. I doubt that was a coordinated effort, probably just a fleeting glimpse at the new block I. Since the helmet is blue they probably just weren't meticulous and got rid of the standard blue outline.

You can forgive this during the "transition" period for DIA and the various Illini sports but hopefully there's a concerted effort to ensure the exact same marks are being used, particularly the block I.

So, what uniform combo is everyone's favorite out of what Nike produced? I definitely like the all whites (including helmet) on the road. Love the orange helmet at home. Not sure on the home uniform. Orange helmet, orange jersey then, orange pants, white pants?

One of the managers on the football team told me today that he heard the blue football uniforms might not be ready for next year.

Sounds absurd to me, but who knows.

Does one of our resident uniform experts know how many years we wore orange pants at home prior to the change to white pants in 2006? I recall some blue pants uniforms in the 80s but otherwise, the tradition was orange going back many decades, correct?

Going through the Illinois Football Vault, first instance I found of wearing white pants at home was 1964-1965. Seems like we wore them until the 80s.

We wore the canvas color "orange" through the Butkus years. Then white pants under Blackmun in the 70s. Definitely wore orange pants since 1979 and mike white except for the occasional all blue look. Zook brought the white pants at home into vogue

I am thinking this as well. Except for maybe the orange helmet, maybe, I dont know. I just really like the white helmet.

The orange Syracuse uniform won't be available until 2015, so it's possible.

The orange uniforms weren't presented in their unveiling though.

Even so, that makes no sense. Unless they aren't willing to pay for them of course.

During the 80's Illinois wore Orange, White and Blue pants. (Mike White era) Seems like through Macko, Turner and Tepper it was mostly Orange. (Home games)

How could you forget the Jim Valek era (or what the uniforms looked like?)

Pizzaman, not quite that old! I only first hand experienced Mike White forward. I don't remember White using white pants at home (but occasionally on the road).

They look to be experimenting with the RGB value of the orange. This is good. The original one given to them by Nike was too dull, red, and almost peachy.

The actual jersey colors are fine, but the RGB was pretty far off, IMO.

Here's an example. They've modified the Block I on the left for the main Illinois Athletics account, but you can see the original orange in the sport accounts.

Actually, Derek Neal from the Sports Info Department informs me that the avatar hasn't changed.

So now I'm perplexed. I never noticed that one being brighter until today, and every other version of the Block I shows that more faded look. Curious.

The colors on the left are certainly preferred.

Nice work. The one of the left looks crisp and cleaner, as well has being the truer shade of orange I associate with illini athletics. While there were some successful elements of this rebrand, I thought that it could have been bolder IMHO
