Gould giving his endorsement to Whitman FWIW...

Herb Gould ‏@HerbGould

Don’t miss this chance, #illini. Josh Whitman is the right to be AD. #B1G http://theaposition.com/herbgould/football/1858/josh-whitman-the-right-guy-at-the-right-time-at-illinois …

At this point I believe I agree with this opinion. If George and Tiley are not options, then lets go for Whitman. At least he has experience as an AD, even if it is not DI. He certainly appears to be bright and capable so hopefully the learning curve at this level will be shorter. Toss in the fact that he is an Illini, I think he is now the best option of the candidates listed.

Applicants for #illini AD job started getting e-mails saying they did not get the job.

E-mails?! That is how you notify a finalist for a job?! I would have hoped they received personal phone calls thanking them for their interest, time and patience during this process. Just shaking my head as to how messed up the University is at this time.

Youre complaining about emails? Thats how the world works these days. No one makes phone calls.

Wow, that is pretty pathetic if that is the case. I run a business and I would never think of sending an email to someone that has interviewed for a job.

my only concern...people fell so in love because he's an "Illinois guy". But if he'd of gone to any other school....the fanbase would be up in arms. We should be wanting the RIGHT guy....not an Illinois guy.

Couple other people I have spoken to feel this exact same way.

I think this time around an Illinois guy may be "right guy". We went with Mike Thomas last time who was definitely the "right guy" or at least one of them. That didnt work out for us. Lets see if it works out this time.

As someone who has gone through (and is still going through) the process of applying for jobs at universities, they should just be happy they get an email saying they are out. I wish I had that courtesy. :noidea:

That was my first thought also. That I think it is really poor if they sent emails.

My thoughts is that people are busy these days, Its easier to check an email than to answer a call or check a voicemail. Honestly, I would rather learn I didnt get the job through an email than a voicemail. That may be splitting hairs but thats just my opinion.

Also true. You dont even hear from the majority of people these days. I mean an email is barely more complicated than a text message, when dealing with smart phones these days.

but Chun, Tilley, and George are much better candidates than Whitman...who should PROBABLY spend a year or two as an Associate AD at a D1 school (it's a different thing than D2)...and everything i've heard is leading me to believe teh board and the hiring firm kept pushing the carot further and further away and that lead to Tilley and George from backing out of the deal.

But it is Illinois so what else should we expect. The running joke of NCAA Athletics. #notideal

If Whitman was qualified enough then Shawn Wax should have been considered more heavily. Either way I am mildly satisfied with the hire. Hoping he does great things.

This post assumes that at this juncture Illinois is even relevant on the national stage of NCAA athletics, and it is not. It's hard to be a running joke when no one pays attention to you.:tsk:

We could have hired Bill Battle from Alabama and half the board would complain about him not being an Illinois guy or not known for building a program. Be thankful we didn't get an AD who has done very little at FAU.

I guess this thread can be closed and we could move over to the Whitman is the new AD thread! I am ready to give him advice on how to proceed!
