The Illinois AD Search

Not sure this has anything to do with potential candidates, but the attached table shows an overview of Illinois athletics over the last three years (Big Ten finishes for 12-13, 13-14, and 14-15). I color coded each sport from bad (red) to good (green) based on BIG finish and national performance. Please correct my characterizations if you think any of these sports are better or worse than listed.
Kind of shows some baseline metrics on what the new AD will be working with when he/she comes in. Honestly, I feel like we are a little worse off than I would have guessed before putting this together – I didn’t realize how low many of our women’s team have finished.

I don't know the exact terms but there is something like a "dire need" circumstance where the process can be bypassed if certain conditions are deemed to be in place.
So pretty much any time in the past 10 years they probably could have invoked this.

So, how long has it been since MT was fired? Three months? To say that UI is now an athletic laughingstock is an understatement. May as well take the interim tag away and keep our current AD.
It's been 84 days without an AD. Pulling the interim tag off of Paul Kowalczyk seems ... not ideal. But it wouldn't put a dagger through the heart of the program.
Fair enough. I used 247's rankings and they had the 2015 class at 11th. So in 6 years that's 2 Top 5 classes, which is better than anything Illinois did, and one that was just outside the Top 10. Even in the other years, he was bringing in 4 and 5 star players.
The bottom-line is that a lot of talent has been coming into Memphis, and the results have been weak once you get past the gaudy W-L record.

Interesting. Is this the first time that Heeke and Chun have been mentioned as candidates?
Heeke spent 18 years at Oregon and Chun spent 15 years at Ohio St. Those are some pretty good programs to learn from.
And both programs are football giants in the 21st century. Coincidence...or is it?
The Illini are still pitching the job to Colorado athletic director Rick George, who played football at Illinois until 1982 and has previously publicly stated that he planned to remain at Colorado. The Illini also targeted Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips, who declined, a source said.
Illinois interim chancellor Barbara Wilson and the school’s search committee met Tuesday and will meet again Wednesday, the source said, with Northern Illinois athletic director Sean Frazier, Washington University (St. Louis) athletic director Josh Whitman, Eastern Illinois athletic director Tom Michael, Central Michigan athletic director Dave Heeke, Florida Atlantic athletic director Patrick Chun, Maryland deputy athletic director Kelly Mehrtens and CEO of Tennis Australia Craig Tiley, who was a former tennis coach at Illinois.
So are those all of the candidates at this point? Are they meeting each of these candidates separately or together? I would have to think separately. That's 7 candidates that were listed. Each gets a 1 hour interview? Any longer seems like too much - anything less seems non-meaningful.

In my mind, and brief internet search, Tiley is head and shoulders above any of the others listed. Shouldn't we be asking Tiley, "What does it take to get you here?" And doing it.
I mean if he's here in the U.S. already, and interviewing for the AD position, how bad would it look if the BOT can't accomodate his wants?
Anyone know what Tiley was making Down Under?
According to a source, Illinois’ search committee will spend the bulk of the time interviewing candidates, while Wilson is allotting only 30 minutes with each candidate.
Great, more MACtion and and lower level D1 schools. Have we become a stepping stone?
