If Brey truly makes $800k and a $700k bonus how could he not at least pick up the phone for the job. Let's say hes offered $2.5 M a year (conservatively) that is a million more than he currently makes. In terms of fit, Notre Dame and U of I are both prestigious academic universities that probably have the same issues and selling points to recruits.

Stay in the Midwest, coach up a good recruitiing class (if they stay) and get some more cash. I know he has been at Notre Dame for quite some time but it doesn't seem out of this world crazy if the money is right.

Personally, I think there is absolutely no way that Mike Brey leaves ND for Illinois and actually think money will have nothing to do with it. Career-wise, it makes zero sense IMO. But even if money mattered, I doubt Whitman would turn this into a bidding war with ND.

Ugggggggggh, Cuonzo's friends and family are back or what?

Not. A. Good. Coach.

Quality recruiter, has shown nothing to suggest he can maximize the talent recruited.

That said, the right coach is in the Pac-12 right now! :)

Not to nitpick, but the Wright coach is actually in the Big East...

Pretty much every sentence in this post is wrong.

Same plane that went to Wilmington yesterday just landed in Omaha.

Given than selection show is today and many teams/coaches will be in the tournament, I doubt many F2F meetings with another school's AD will take place today, distracting their current team preparation.

I admit to being wary of Steve Prohm. Not because he's Steve Prohm, but I fear the Bruce Weber syndrome of winning big with someone else's recruits then falling flat on your face when you're on your own. What is ISU going to look like in 2-3 years? We will be long past our coach search by the time we find out but I'm just queasy about him for the above reason.

Obelix, this is not the time or the place for logic!

Maybe CM intentionally tanked the end of the season to try to not make the tournament so he could get to UI quicker.

That is a joke for anyone thinking it was serious.

Ok with intreging interest I have been following the coaching search here and I must admit there are some good names being tossed around. Now I am not a expert, I also do not post much on here but I do have to wonder. Why do we have to hire one of these coaches mentioned on here? Think outside the box. How about, Eddie Johnson? I love watching him play. If there was a three point line in his day he would be at the top of the scoring list. He could get Roger Powell , maybe be Howard, keep Walker as assitances. Maybe even an Chicago high school coach for a recuiter. Don't beat me up over this. Just me wondering.

Plenty of reason for skepticism. But major conference success with somebody else's players probably beats no major conference success at all, right?

He also took Hoiberg's players and made them better. Beside Illinois, they're my favorite team to watch. I've even been to Hilton for a game each of the past 2 years. The way he uses Morris and Burton (and Niang before him) is so fun to watch.

I will admit not knowing much about him. When one of your favorite coaches (Huggins) gets manhandled by a lesser team. They passed my eye test. Now, for sustained success, I don't know. I also see the relevance of the the post that I couldn't see the reverence. I get the Bruce Weber reference, sorry I couldn't connect the two and thanks for pointing it out.

Marshall was at $3.3MM and is scheduled to go to base of $3.5MM beginning next season. He almost always hits a couple bonus targets which gets him another $150k.

Jank's SMU squad just ran roughshod over Cincy winning their conference tourney rather convincingly. They'll be 30-4 going into the tourney.

No way to know for sure. Major conference success with someone else's players might not be a recipe for long term success.

Plus our new coach won't be stepping in to a ready made team.

I think Mike Brey would be a good fit.
