State fan here, and I did just kind've wanted to come by and counter a few of the points you have made.
-Yep, there is absolutely high expectations, as there should be with any school with our history playing on Tobacco Road. I mean, we have been to the Sweet Sixteen twice in the past six years with a coach that was notorious throughout college basketball as being a poor Xs and Os guy. But to say it is a top 3-5 worse power job (especially knowing what State is willing to offer the next coach) is just absolutely off-base.
-One thing State has done over the past handful of years is show how well you can recruit here. Gottfried pulled in two Top 5 classes in his six years at State (unfortunately you have to be able to coach those said recruits) and regularly was the second best recruiter in the state behind K. I believe Gottfried's classes were a higher average ranking in his time at State than Roy's were at UNC (although that did not mean anything on the court, it showed how someone could absolutely recruit to State).
-Our fans are portrayed by the national media as expecting too much. There are so many myths regarding this. Our fans expect a coach to be able to come here and build a program and maintain that program. We are not asking for a conference championship every year, but we do believe a coach should consistently be in the NCAA Tournament every year and not be below .500 in Years 5 and 6 (especially in Year 6 when this was Gott's most talented team). Another rumor to debunk is Herb Sendek was never fired from State, he left on his own.
-In regards to Archie, one thing that is well known is that he apparently has coveted the Ohio State job. Well, another thing that is known is that he also coveted the NC. State job back in 2011 during our last coaching search (and I know Doyel had a similar tweet just the other day saying he had heard he still does somewhat covet the NC. State job), but at that time he had yet to have any head coaching experience. As to what will happen this go round, we will see. But there are definitely some other great candidates along with Archie that are on the board.
Just a few things I wanted to come by and say. I wish you guys well in this coaching search, and think both schools have great things to offer potential candidates.
Also, in regards to that "wolf" sign, yes that was an NC. State sign. Archie's wife is also a State alum and her family still lives in NC.
