I'm guessing he realized he wasn't going to move up from DL coach at Army. Academy lineman aren't going to build your rep and I feel like Monken's staff is solid, but set and he wanted to get back to the B1G where he eventually could parlay a staff move to a position coach if Someone moves on at UIUC.
Being head strength coach in the B1G is pretty much making it in the profession. He’s on pace to have decent job security while bringing in a salary competitive with the top half of the assistant coaches on the roster. Like if he wanted to move to d line, good chance he’d need to take a pay cut.

All true, though the big money and fame is in being a head coach, and you'll never get there from the strength staff. He was young enough (he's like 30-31, he was a senior player in 2012) to start out on the on-field side.

Now he's "made it" in strength. But those guys are at the mercy of the recruiting and coaching abilities of the on-field staff, and just as volatile.

It's an interesting conundrum. But making that kind of money that young must be nice.

Yeah he’s still so young. He could easily do this for 5ish years then try his hand on field and always fall back into strength assuming he leaves on good terms. Good problem for him

Now we’re back to the T-Rob rumor? That was supposed to be imminent 2 weeks ago!

I hope it’s true - we have the budget and he’s a great recruiter
Nah, we are hiring Muschamp. He is using Texas to bump his salary up here. He wants to unite the hot former SEC wives and he is tired of crazy fan bases that scape goat him when he is facing superteams like Alabama and Clemson every year.

Correct. Just a rumor at this point. No one knows for sure.
Edit: I should say it’s more than a rumor as I know him and BB have had discussions I just don’t know how deep those discussions went

I don’t recall seeing this in the thread yet, but Al Davis was on Bielema’s staff at Arkansas.

Looks like he and the new strength coach played together and were on staff together.

Did I miss a d line hire? He’s definitely wearing an Illinois hoodie in his profile pic.

He was on Lovies staff. I havent heard that he’s been retained, but it certainly sounds like he expects to be.
Wasn’t he one of the 3 coaches from Lovie’s staff (Bellamy and Patterson being the others), who BB said would have the opportunity to interview for a spot on this staff? I thought he said opportunity to interview with appropriate coordinator, so since no DC yet Davis staying might not be official.

I'm gonna say we find out the DC today. Not sure when but I'd bet on today. Petersen was announced last Monday, granted much later in the day.

Edit: all my information comes from this very site.

No, Lindsey was the other one.

Davis wasn't really qualified to be a full time assistant and it showed last year. Jumping from JUCO coach to fulltime P5 assistant is just odd but obviously Lovie really liked him after having one conversation with him. He also had some recruiting connections to Georgia that Lovie liked.

Lindsey is way more qualified to be the Defensive Line coach. He was the recruiting director at Western Kentucky as well as a full time assistant at Western Kentucky for three years before coming here. He did a great job with the Defensive Ends this year as Owen Carney finally had a breakthrough season. However, I would expect an upgrade from him as well.

I wouldn't read too much into their Twitter profiles. They haven't officially been let go so there's no reason to change anything right now.

Also, he's literally friends and a former teammate of Tank's. He'd probably have an excited tweet regardless of which school hired him.

So Doc Holliday has been let go by Marshall, not fired, they just let his contract run out and they won't renew it. This is apparently because the governor of West Virginia has an ax to grind with Holliday, and wants Marshall to replace him with Bob Pruett, former great Marshall coach, who is 77 years old and last coached in 2008. The governor wouldn't sanction a contract extension for Holliday, so here we are. Incidentally, Holliday was just named CUSA Coach of the Year.

God I love college football.

(The Governor is 6'7", the richest man in West Virginia, has switched parties twice during his brief time in politics, and is named Jim Justice. Only in America.)
