Well given that CPatt now has Mike Bellamy's job I guess that means Bellamy is out?

Does this mean Patterson is the only holdover from the previous staff? If they knew that Patterson and another coach like Bellamy were returning, wouldn’t they announce all the returners at the same time?

I'd imagine so. Perhaps they are going with a different WR coach?

I doubt Lindsey will be retained on the defensive side of the ball, but I guess there's a possibility that he could return.

I don’t think necessarily. Could be about keeping Illinois in the news cycle longer — spread out announcements. Not the same, but Tank and the operations guy were hired the same day but announced separately. Have to think both hires were known when first announcement made, so could have been joint announcement.

Players as well seem to be spread out = as sell noticed this early on I like the idea ..
Keep it fresh

Serious question on Bellamy: why does everyone want him back so badly? Wasn't he essentially in charge of recruiting Chicago and we have seen how that has went. His all time commits (I know, doesn't tell the whole story but helps out) is very average for being an "excellent" recruiter: https://247sports.com/Coach/Mike-Bellamy-1792/AllTimeRecruits/. His only other job was Toledo. What am I missing?

https://247sports.com/college/illin...ate-recruiting-Mike-Bellamy-Illini-145441555/ His recent comments on Chicago recruiting wouldn't seem to help his status there either, despite how much of it was Lovie's doing

To me the Cory and/or Bellamy retention was primarily about keeping current players here. Outside of that I’d say Bellamy was probably a better coach and Cory probably a better recruiter. 1 holdover sounds about right.

If he wasn’t retained and Corey was, that would be my first wtf moment with BB
Have we ever considered Bellamy didn't want to come back? With the NFL having many openings as well as more high powered college offenses he may think the best thing for his career is to hitch to a different post that will help elevate him.

Probably all true. Ill add Bellamy is in his 50s, Cory in his 30s. Much higher ceiling with Cory IMO. Hurts to lose an alumni if he is indeed gone. We still need an ACE recruiter to join this staff. Any guesses out there to keep the thread going? I'd say Sunseri is the best recruiter that's been mentioned here as a possibility to join the staff.
