I didn't really consider what IlliniGuy posted when he said maybe Phair considers staying. Indie says there are places for them, but the Josh McDaniels thing looks ugly. I wonder... looking forward to seeing who we get. We just have one drama after another don't we? lol Great for the forums.

Give Lovie five years. This is one of the most difficult programs to build in Division 1 football.

I think there are some people in DC that could take a lesson from our athletic dept on how to squelch leaks. They are tighter than the old "gnat's *ss stretched across a rain barrel".

my guess is that Lovie knows something we don't. I don't see him buying a pig-in-a-poke.
Sure hope so. We just replaced our most experienced, best-tactician, defensive coach with a young grad assistant with no connection to the current coaching staff, or the midwest. Also, usually you expect young coaches to be great recruiters. As a grad assistant he was not allowed to do much recruiting.
I wonder if there's more to this. Phair was paid very well. Also Rod Smith is making less than McGee did. Totally spit-balling here, but maybe the final hire is a highly paid Co-DC that has a history as a D-line coach, allowing Lovie to take a chance on a young up-and-comer with connections to good recruiting areas.

I know it's not a great apples-to-apples comparison because he wasn't going to coach d-line but letting Scheelhaase leave without a full-time offer, then deciding to hire a 27 year old with essentially the same background but no relationship to Illinois or the area, is disheartening. I give Lovie some props about being willing to disregard the emotional side of the equation, but still....
Been thinking the same thing. Guessing it had more to do with where to fit Patterson into the coaching staff and it made more sense to put him on offense. Also, guessing Lovie didn't see the Phair move happening much ahead of time.
I see no connections to the Midwest. Only Florida and California from what i can see
Not that i want Phair to leave my beloved colts I would of at least said hey your coach quit on you after 2 hours and you dont know who your getting want to come back

Am I the only one who sees we just hired a young dude who was a recruiting assistant, and has ties to Florida and California, two states we are trying to get pipelines?
I think it seems quite clear that we are going for Illinois, Texas, Florida and California kids and filling the staff to meet those expectations.

Well, he went to a powerhouse high school in Tampa, so, there should be some inroads there. He's been in Cali 8 years, so there should be some more connections there. Maybe he is "all that". I don't know, trying to be optimistic.
