So I was riding on a bus today wrapped in LSU-Lafayette livery. LSU-L, as in Ragin’ Cajans Remarkable how Cajuns are A-OK with being affiliated with a university (now recognized as a “research” university).
What does it say about an ethnic group that doesn’t want to be associated with higher education. Even more so, what does it say about non-members of that group who want to ban any association of said group with higher education while being lavishly compensated by an institution of higher learning? Who’s being “hostile and abusive,” Rosenstein, you snotty little weasel.

FSU "gets by" with the Seminoles because they've had a relationship with the tribe since 1977 and everything they do regarding Chief Osceola is in partnership with the tribe--including the portrayal of their Cheif.
FSU did it right--eventually. Their original incarnations of a native mascot/symbol were worse than Chief in terms of red-face and inauthentic garb/dance, and there were protests about it from the natives in the area. Illinois missed or avoided every opportunity to do it right until it was too late, and here we are.

I agree, primarily because (IMHO) the people behind these alternatives are really using this to backdoor the real objective...eliminating the name "Fighting Illini". They were never going to settle for the half win of eliminating Chief Illiniwek, they're compelled to burn the whole thing down.How about we have nothing and like it?
I'm really not understanding how a kingfisher is fun. To me, the only time these mascots are fun is like this:

As far as I can tell, neither Indiana nor Michigan have mascots. Is ther any outcry for a mascot on those campuses?

They don't have to have mascots. The whole point of having a mascot (as some have pointed out) is to have a big, goofy guy running around at games. This applies to almost every Hoosier out there and Michigan has Hunter Dickinson.
The statue "creates confusion for visitors and leaves them wondering about the values of the high school"? There must not be much to do in Kaukauna if this is what the kids are up to. They must be sooo happy to find something to be offended about.So much for the galloping ghosts

Good advice The principal shold tell students to find a house where the parents are not home, all get in the same room, turn off the lights and see what happens.
