I'm good with it, can't say I'd ever heard of him before this hiring process but I like his diverse connections. Mostly happy the thread can now die!

Curious though, if you're going to speculatively announce it with a delayed starting date, then way wait till now? If it was the theory to allow sneaky unofficial recruiting for Illinois before being hired, then why not wait till July 26th to announce to maximize that? If it was due to his contractual obligations to clients for his training prep for NBA draft, etc., I guess delaying the announcement helps not piss of his paying customers who want him solely focused on them. Maybe this was a happy middle ground announcement date given BU/JW's pressure to announce something as speculation grew...

Would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall for the behind the scenes negotiations of the timing of all of this ;)

I think the next few AC hire carousels we may see a very different skillset being pursued for at least one AC focused on corporate business development / fundraising to align with NIL....or maybe that becomes a non-coaching staff role, or AD position across football & men's hoops...guess we'll see how it all unfolds.

This is one of those things where we need to trust that leadership did the best they could and that there was sound reasoning behind the way it was handled. Let’s just be happy to have him! :)

Well, gotta give credit to the insiders this time. We did expect this hire.
Well, I like hopeful news as much as anyone here, but I did see his name, and good reasons why it might be him on another free board, before it was ever seen here. If this site is your only source, that is great. There are a couple of old timers who have been on the forums since there have been forums, that I always pay attention too.

It also tells those in the portal to that are still considering us (*cough*Kofi*cough*) that we've have the tools to develop them for the NBA. That might be weighted more in our favor along with NIL potential.

Well look at that. We have a 3rd assistant coach and it was who has been speculated for weeks. Who would have thunk?

This appears to be a great addition. Look for Irving or Randall to take Geoff's old spot. Just a guess.

The current staff as a whole could run laps around the previous staff from a recruiting standpoint. Anderson has some awesome connections that are going to pay off big time!
I think you are spot on. As a whole this staff is almost certainly better than the previous one. I don't think any of the new coaches are at OA level though or will be in the near future. So you don't have a top end guys which I think perturbs some on here but you have 3 very solid guys.

I will say I am curious why Anderson hasn't landed a more prominent role already given the rave reviews and connections that he has. I still think people will look back and the Frazier hire and wonder why some people were against it.

My guess is that it was announced so they may use it to help try to bring back a very talented big man who might go astray.

I know Anderson is respected for NBA prep. Has he worked with players at all positions, or has he had a particular focus?
