Tim Beckman no longer a volunteer coach at UNC

Said it before and I'll say it again: Beckman is the game's premier hanging-around-coaches (for free) guy. Seriously though, if he's literally volunteering for UNC just to scout our team for them ... bitter much?

I doubt he's there to scout. Nothing about our team is the same from from when he was here, scheme-wise. The players are older, stronger, faster and leaner. Oh, and he doesn't know anything about football.

He's just trying to rebuild his rep as a non abusive meathead. That is, until he gets voluntold to go away after he gets flagged for a sideline warning and spits tobacco in a referee's face.

Tim Beckman to become volunteer coach at UNC

Apparently, Beckman is now a volunteer assistant defensive coach at UNC. What do you guys make of that??

All I make of that is that no one is buying his "I've been around coaching my whole life" schtick anymore.

Lasagna.

You could say he's being paid $250k by us to be their coach depending on how you view the settlement we gave him earlier this year. So long as we're not paying him to coach here it's money well spent.

ha ha, that's funny !
Sort of like Bears fans being pleased to see the Zooker coaching special teams in Green Bay.

If he's in the building that would make for an amazing atmosphere I'm sure. The Eric Gordon game part II.

The big difference between him and Gordon is that we were giving Gordon the business because we really really wanted him to be an Illini coming out of HS.

Not sure there are many people left who ever wanted Beckman here. Most are just very happy he is long gone from here.

Beckman did more harm to the program than Eric Gordon - and it's not even close.

I hope he's in the building just so I can boo extra loudly when the Tarheels come out of the locker room.

There's no question if Becko shows his face in MS for the UNC game he will get hammered with boos .

more than anything else I think it just shows how small the coaching fraternity actually is as Fedora knows Beckman from their time together as assistants at OK ST...

I think you could say Fedora's star is on the rise and Beckman may just be trying to re-build his career hoping to get another paid gig...

If he's helping coach them I think that would move the line in our direction :)

I cannot understand why UNC would want to besmirch their reputation by hiring Beckman. The player abuse scandal notwithstanding, his goofball persona should be enough for any serious program to stay away. This one is mind boggling to me.

A free scouting report, I imagine.

As for him being booed out of the building, I'm not totally sure that a "volunteer" coach is even allowed on the field. Doesn't the NCAA have a ton of regulations concerning the number of coaches and what their level of participation can be? Anyway, I don't think UNC has any interest in trotting him out there. See paragraph one. His utility to them is ...shall we say, limited.
