Skip Thoren had the career rebounding record for a time (830 in 74 games) James Augustine is the current record holder with 1023 but he played in 137 games. Illinois played 26-24-24 games in Thoren's 3 years of playing. They played 32-33-39-33 in Augustine's 4 years. Thoren had 11.2 rebounds per game and Augustine 7.5 yet Augustine is the career record holder. It appears that career records are career records no matter how many games are played. Who knows what the NCAA will do in the future. Someday 5 years of eligibility might be allowed. Think of all the changes to the game from a jump ball after every goal to no jump balls to a 30 second shot clock and the addition of a 3 point shot (Which was made longer a few years ago). How do you compare 3 point statistics? Rule changes can have a big effect on many statistics. Just saying a career record is a career record. The player had to stick around, stay healthy and keep his position on the team to allow the minutes to achieve the record whether it is points, rebounds, steals, assists, free throws, etc. That seems to be the logic for allowing Augustine to be the "Career" rebound record holder.
