Isn’t the panel a university policy? I know the details are unclear but is the AD helping TSJs team to get around the panel they made for addressing this very issue with the courts? What is the point of the panel then if it can just be worked around in this manner? Not saying anything is wrong or right, just confused.

Yikes, I'll defer what this means to the insiders. But it seems like whatever hope TSJ team had in finding a resolution that would allow him to play is gone and this is their last ditch effort.

I disagree. I see this as:

ATTORNEY: Okay, what needs to happen for TJ to return to the court?

THREE PERSON PANEL Nothing can be done. Sorry. Our decision is final. Unless of course you file a temporary restraining order which we would be legally bound to respect, or something. But like I said, nothing can be done. Are we clear?

so if I'm understanding this UI was working with TJ two weeks ago (sent a staffer with him to turn himself in Lawrence) to now he's suing UI? I'm no legal expert or anything close to please correct me if need be.

I was kinda thinking this as well.

Sir - I am shocked at your suggestion.

It implies that the University is looking for some kind of legal / PR cover for allowing TSJ to play.

As I tell my kids - nothing good happens after midnight but lots of bad things happen only after midnight. If you want to safe - stay away from the post midnight troublemakers.

I am sure TSJ regrets ever entering that bar.

It is very possible (likely?) that people within UI support TSJ taking this route. We can't lose a PR battle if a court is the one deciding to let him play.

I view this as a way to “tie” the universities hands. Basically they had to suspend him and keep him suspended until legal action is over. Outside of charges being dropped or dismissed this seems like literally the only option.

Surely the athletic department/university have their hand in this decision of filing a restraining order, right?

I hope this is the case. It just seems odd that Illinois ppl would encourage TSJ to sue them considering it seems Illinois ppl behind the scenes were trying to work with him to find a resolution.

But I don't know anything about the legal process or have any inside information. Hoping for some sort of signals from insiders 😃

All you legal experts out there, is this something that’s more than a Hail Mary to hold up? I agree with the concept that he isn’t really getting the innocent until proven guilty treatment by being barred from furthering his future when he hasn’t been convicted of anything at this time. Could really save the university from the PR nightmare but also would render the panel useless for any future reviews I would think.

Even if this worked, wouldn't he still only be allowed to play home games until the case is resolved? AFAIK a condition of his bail is he can't leave town.

I understand from the TSJ perspective this would get him back on the team

However from a BU standpoint do u play him?

Also this could establish precedent for future cases
