1. And I think many people would stand by your comments being condescending and smug. (And likely ignorant of people's knowledge relative to your own.)

2. Then perhaps you should have not posted your (totally unrelated) statement in a thread entitled "TSJ Thread"??
1) I apologize to everyone who thought that my comments were smug or condescending. I understand people may be "ignorant" to certain things in this regard. Which is why I suggested that they better educate themselves. I acknowledge that I could have worded it better, but I still don't think it's wrong to suggest that people educate themselves on something that they may not have knowledge on.

2) I wouldn't say it's totally unrelated, but that's a matter of opinion. But also, it's not like IllinoisLoyalty is known for never going off topic.

Can't wait til this is all over and I can go into more details. Just absolutely wild stuff and the fact that charges were brought is insanity
Can't wait for the dust to settle on this so we can know more.

Question tho - the fact that charges were brought to begin with, isn't that a concerning thing not in favor of TSJ? Like, if they made it this far, how confident are we that justice will be served appropriately?

thanks for the insight!

That affadavit looks bad from unknowing eyes (aka my circle of friends and family), certainly to the point where they are prematurely condemning TJ. I can appreciate the concept of believing the accuser, but to those that aren't close to the situation, it doesn't look good. I just hope this can be resolved quickly and without permanently wrecking TJ's life if he in fact didn't do what he's been accused of.

While none of us know all the details of what happened I am glad to see that TSJ is standing up for his rights.

Remember the false rape accusations in the Duke Lacrosse team

“As the City has maintained throughout, it believes that its police officers had an obligation to investigate the allegations made by Crystal Mangum in 2006 and that no police officer nor any other City employee engaged in improper conduct,” the statement said. “The former District Attorney, Mike Nifong, was not a City employee, and Mr. Nifong was subsequently convicted of criminal contempt and disbarred for his actions.” Nifong also spent a day in jail for his handling of the case.

Everyone now needs to start every post by informing us whether or not they are a lawyer.
I practiced for 30 years in Illinois, gave up my license when I retired, BUT slept in a Holiday Inn last week. Lo and behold, I received a letter from the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission today that I was reinstated with full privileges. You try to get out, but they just drag you back in!

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I believe the only evidence we have right now is what Shannon's legal team has given us. The DA could have other evidence that we haven't seen and that perhaps has not yet been turned over or Shannon has but hasn't released. So we don't have enough to determine that the case is total BS. Mostly BS, of course.
The actual complaint has been released, I believe I saw it on Twitter. In my opinion, as a woman who believes women as a rule, there was not enough evidence there to have charged him with rape. Even if he is found to have done what is alleged (butt grabbing, and sticking his hand up her skirt), they should have at least investigated before moving on such serious charges. They didn't even question any witnesses (Justin Harmon, Hunter Dickinson, Lance McCullars, the grad assistant from Illinois). I'm not saying she's lying, but she may be mistaken. There's at least reasonable doubt, in my opinion.

Along the sidebar discussion of lawyerin' shows, if anyone hasn't seen this one, it's pretty funny (The Grinder):

Fantastically underrated show...

… Are we reading the same affidavit…? Or are you family and friends just assuming because he’s charged he’s guilty? Genuinely confused here, because the DA’s case looks beyond bad, lol.

Again, my statement was not in reference to the TSJ situation. I still don't know why people are upset at a suggestion that people should better educate themselves.
Because it smacks of condescension?

Nothing you've said is factually incorrect, and the seriousness of the issues you describe should not be diminished. But most here care far more about the TSJ situation than the national situation. And it is certainly not an unbiased audience.

The overview makes it look bad, the details are problematic.

Haha!! Genius.

I let my flight instructor certificate expire many moons ago...maybe I should just send the FAA receipts for all my nights at the Holiday Inn Express!!

Could easily turn the tables and say that you need to better educate yourself in terms of false allegations, burden of proof being on the accuser and innocent until proven guilty. People don't like being lectured.

Furthermore taking sexual assualt seriously and supporting TSJ with what has been released is NOT mutaully exclusive. You're trying to "white knight" anyone who is finding this ordeal as nebulous.
I am more than aware of the burden of proof and being innocent until proven guilty. I acknowledged that false accusations exist and that this very well could be a situation of a false accusation.

At no point did I state that supporting TSJ is mutually exclusive with not taking sexual assault seriously. The evidence we have become privy to certainly seems to indicate that TSJ may not be guilty. Which I sincerely hope is the case. Personally, I'm withholding final judgement until more information is known. But it is certainly reasonable to believe that TSJ is innocent.

HOWEVER, I do think it is important that people understand that how a victim reacts is not good evidence of whether an assault actually occurred or not. And, in my opinion, to state otherwise is harmful to real victims of sexual assault, and research indicates that those type of opinions tend to dissuade real victims from coming forward. I think we can all agree that it is important for society to do all it can to help victims of sexual assault report when they are assaulted.

is it just me or do some of these headlines “TSJ files restraining order against own team”, etc. come off as lazy reporting for shock value? the filing is clearly directed at UI policy. maybe just semantics, but I think it can be important for public perception.

Good read. Sounds like there was an overzealous lawyer or prosecutor involved who is being sued.
