I could be wrong on the details but isn’t Pop Issac for Texas Tech currently playing while being accused of sexually assaulting a drunk minor?
That's only a civil suit and the event occured in the Bahamas. The girl was above the age of consent in the Bahamas. I don't know how they handle the liquor consumption but essentially the family was only left with a civil course of action.

Costing players NIL opportunities complicates things with these legal matters

Universities are treating players like employees so it will be a matter of time for players to have unions and collective bargaining agreements to protect both sides

A lot of legal cases in the past couple years changed the landscape and if TSJ gets the TRO, universities will have to rethink their policies
It will be more complicated when schools directly pay the athletes but that's not the case here. They are private contracts so TJ would somehow have to prove that he would get new deals if he was able to play while he is awaiting trial.

With all due respect to those typically in the know when it comes to our athletic program, this is a whole other can of worms. Be vigilant with where you get your info and what you believe. Unfortunately, it seems like we are in for a long and complicated ride.

For those of us who don’t have a Twitter (ugh… “X”) account, would you mind posting the entire thread? Please and thank you.

At the very least it gives a new timeline and likely plan of attack. If the TRO isn't granted and TSJ were to not get relief from the federal courts, it seems expected that once his lawyers get and go over all the evidence the week of 1/31 they'll attempt to use that evidence to go back to the panel to try persuading them TSJ should play. And if that doesn't work, or simultaneously, try to go over the DA's head if they find significant issues with the investigation, evidence, and charges filed.

So assuming Lawrence hands over the requested documents at the very last second (seems likely as they have no motivation to send it faster), and TSJ gets no additional relief, I guess set the alarm clocks to the first week of February.

Agreed. Those who thought that this would be resolved in a quick fashion, were hopeful. Nothing wrong with that.

That said, this is going to be a long process and the law doesn't care about a basketball season. If TJ is lucky, things will be resolved before the draft. If the process is status quo....it's probably the summer.

Your comments are probably the most levelheaded in this thread. This will, and has been, a long complicated ride.

The insiders on this board have said from the beginning the expected timeline of return (if he returns) was end of January or early February

On January 12, 2024, TSJ’s lawyers sent a subpoena to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI). The subpoena requests every swab, photograph, examination note, chain of custody note, all crime lab reports, and all DNA analysis performed (to name a few). From my review, TSJ’s lawyers are very strong with extensive trial experience. This subpoena is significantly detailed to secure the Laboratory Case File. It is due back within 14 days (depending when received, around Jan. 31, 2024) so nothing will happen until then. Be cautious about what you hear online, podcasts, on the streets, etc. Facts are important while opinions riddled with hearsay can become biased propaganda for both sides.

I have a hard time believing the panel is going to overturn the suspension while the case is still ongoing. They aren't going to be interpreting evidence and making their own ruling.

They won't but likely will not be an issue if the tro is granted. If granted highly likely you get a longer term injunction. They didn't care before so why should they later on. Easier to rely on that poster child for impartiality, fairness, properly exercised prosecutorial discretion and common sense otherwise known as Douglas County

I’ll GLADLY be lectured by someone about how my opinions are problematic, but…

1) While there might be additional evidence yet to be revealed, I think it’s fair to judge TJ by ONLY those facts - even circumstantial - that we have available.

2) I’ll judge ALL of these (possibly circumstantial) facts with both the presumption of TJ’s innocence and the positive image he’s put forth to-date.

3) Until more becomes available … this case seems like a joke.

4) Believing #3 before we get “all the facts” isn’t just entirely reasonable, it should be the moral default for any man or woman accused of something that they adamantly deny.

5) #4 takes nothing away from A-N-Y other sexual assault case or any perceived broader problem regarding sexual assault. TJ and, frankly, the victim deserve this case to be viewed in isolation. If you see viewing it in isolation as a problem, I’d argue the problem lies more with you, your virtue signaling and your desire to make everything about a validation of your self-flattering ideologies that pad your ego…
Your opinions are in no way problematic because they are just that...your opinions.

I'm not sure what it would take for the University to feel comfortable letting him play. Maybe once all the evidence is out and they can reasonably feel that he is innocent. What that looks like, I don't know.

I believe the reason Tech is allowing him to play is they looked to the Title lX commission which continues to hold him in good standing. I assume Tech does not have similar procedures and standards in place as we do.

I am very good friends with a long time prosecuting attorney. He said Terrance Shannon would not have been indicted. if the prosecutor did not feel he had enough evidence to convict. Most likely TSJ will not play again for the U of I. Sad, but true.
In a lot of cases yes, but this DA has a track record of doing these things with very little evidence

The panel is going off of the currently known information.

I’m guessing they also know that the defense does not yet have all the evidence and thus are compelled to wait until all evidence has been released. Only then will they entertain removing the suspension.

It doesn’t satisfy the public who believes in TSJ’s innocence (I am one of those people until it’s been shown otherwise) but it’s all the panel can do until they know all the cards the prosecution is holding.
