Right? People online saying he’s going to be benched or the school will suspend him again. They can’t, right?
The ruling all but names every University and DIA employees as being bound by the TRO. I don’t think the lawyers would advise Brad to do anything other than pretend the suspension never happened. Not playing an all American = contempt of a federal judges ruling. IANAL

Genuinely asking. Even though this cleared him to play, is there any chance behind the scenes Brad has been discouraged to play him or any chance he's treated different from the DIA?
IMO if he is put back on the team as a legally active player and they bench him that is equivalent to the University snubbing their nose at the courts ruling. Not good.

if you had a private , off the record conversation with BU & JW, this is exactly the outcome they wanted for now .
The TRO will likely take it thru the season and then it’s just a legal issue TSJ has to get thru - and we can all hope case is dismissed or he’s fully acquitted at trial

the TRO now provides cover for the program .

If the University is smart they would just lick their wounds, redo the DIA policy and let him play out the season. As the ruling states the court finds the suspension did hurt TJ. U of I would be in a world of hurt financially if the criminal case ends in exonerating TJ in a manner a civil jury finds in hindsight blindly oblivious. And holds U of I responsible for damages.
I agree...this ruling gives the University cover to allow him to play while still maintaining that they tried their best to suspend him. As happy as I am for this decision, I do have concerns about the optics the rest of the country will see of a sold out assembley hall giving a standing ovation to a guy charged with rape.

Many of us who have followed this closely and understand the details of the case (at least the ones that have been made public) understand why so many people are standing with Terrance (myself included). But, as has been pointed out here before, many "casual fans" haven't followed the details closely enough to understand why many of us believe Terrance to be innocent of these charges...all they'll see is us cheering a guy they presume to be guilty of a really bad crime.

I'll get over my concerns and am still thrilled with this outcome.

This is massive. IANAL but this feels kinda landmarky to me. And frankly, criminal proceedings aside, this is the best outcome for all parties.

TSJ gets to play and Illinois is shielded from any backlash it would've encountered by not suspending him.

While this is great for TSJ and the team, I hope the people closest to him talk to him about what’s likely going to be said to him during road games from the stands.
I get what you are saying, but assume for a second that we can take TJ at his word that he is in fact innocent of these charges.

He has FIVE DECADES of prison time hanging over his head for a crime he did not commit ... the chance to get out on a basketball court and spend several hours per week thinking about the game he loves is going to make some heckling from visiting fans seem like white noise, IMO.

TSJ seems like the type that wouldn't be phased a bit by this.

This has some serious national implications. What about situations where a player was dismissed from the team due to criminal charges, like Arterio Morris at Kansas? Was he dismissed due to a Title IX review so that dismissal is okay according to this ruling? Can the Illinois just hold a Title IX review tomorrow and still conclude TSJ should be suspended thus affording him due process that the judge determined was denied?
Morris had priors. I dont think you can compare his situation to TSJ.
