Is it time to have an honest conversation about the direction of this program yet? We have an offense built around three pointers with a roster full of terrible shooters who can't defend. I mean, what a recipe for non success.
Agreed. If you plan on shooting a lot of three's, recruit good shooters. And height is nice, but our bigs aren't quick/athletic enough to defend. I don't like the way this team is constructed. Ceiling for this team is sweet 16.

I think Boswell/Lee/Stojakovic/Wagler are the best athletes on the team. I’d try playing them all together and then whichever big that wants to own the paint gets the 5th spot. Just give me the All Dog, most athletic, attack the paint team we can put out there.

I’ve seen enough of stretch 4 Euro ball. There’s a low ceiling on that. We don’t have any lights out shooters to play that way. There’s a reason UConn doesn’t have 3-4 Karabans. They got one guy like that. We seem to have 4 of them.

100% this. Many of us knew the Duke game would go badly last year but had no idea we’d lose by 43 and take the worst loss in program history. These are nationally televised games with a lot of media, NBA scouts, and recruits watching. They’re also opportunities to gain national respect and prove we belong among the elite…so why TF are we not showing up prepared and like junkyard dogs…IDK.
I will say this. The first thing that ESPN went to at halftime of the Illinois State vs Furman game was Uconn's victory over Illinois.

I believe the bad/missed call was the over the back on Ben. Call that, no 4 point play, Ben gets 2 FT's with the chance to cut the lead to 5 with 2 mins to go.
Played terrible, etc. but 1 missed call from making it very interesting.
Agreed.

If you aren’t making the shots, who cares how open they are?

Last time I checked, you don’t get partial points for a wide open shot that doesn’t go in. If you aren’t making long shots, start taking shorter shots.

Ok but they clog the lane so you can’t do that

I didn’t go back through all his responses here, but the one you quoted doesn’t say what you are saying he said.. “poster is miserable because single criticism is made”… that’s not accurate.

If you like having the freedom to push back when people are overly positive, we’d like to enjoy similar freedom to push back when folks overly negative as well.

We had a really civil discussion about this yesterday, and now everyone is back to flaming each other again (I was guilty of this earlier as well) because everyone’s frustrated today.
100% agree with your last two paragraphs.

As to the rest, I responded after his third, and there was a fourth after. As I said point taken.

But you’re right about civility and if I crossed a line I apologize.

Where is the poster who scoffed at the possibility of Wagner getting his minutes cut once we were finally healthy? Well he had only 14 today. I'm shocked he lost that many, but not surprised they got cut. If our bigs are gonna play this poorly though, we need to go more guard heavy. We have the players.

Ben had a strong game and helped us get back in it. This is a bad take.
Jake Davis came in for the first time with Illinois down 17, I believe. I think his minutes will really be limited during the Big 10 season.

Excellent point. UConn was willing to take some open mid range shots that IL willingly gave up which were higher % than getting contested at the rim or more difficult shots from 25 feet out. Our guys, other than Andres, seem completely unwilling to take open 15 footers. Mirk hit one at the beginning of the game then launched from 3 the rest of the game. Big Z nothing in the paint just heaving from 3. Same for Hummer. Same for Tomi.

If you aren’t very athletic and thus will have a hard time finishing at the rim, and you also aren’t a lights out 3 shooter, then there’s nothing wrong with taking open mid range shots. Easier shots

I’m not sure what other posts of mine you are referring to but the ratio of “all hope is lost” posts to measured, thoughtful posts is about 100:1.
Already replied to NarrowJ and do want to keep things civil. I don’t agree with that ratio but all should be entitled to their own viewpoint.

If I was a millionaire I still wouldn’t donate to a underwood coached team

We are uber talented and I expect Tomi to get better / effort should be correctable but sometimes Brad is like the older sales guy riding things out.. established book of business (20+wins etc) and nice referrals (recruiting)… but is he willing to dig really deep and have his hair on fire for 40 minutes? Thought solo ball could’ve had four fouls on Boswell in the first five minutes and not a peep from Brad
We're not uber-talented. Typical fan !!!! overrating their own players. Our bigs might be tall, but they're not quick and outside of Z, not athletic. Mirk and Keaton looked great against mediocre teams and we got the typical ridiculous proclamations about how great they'd be. Mirk can throw his weight around against weak teams, but he is remarkably slow and can't defend worth a damn.

Main problem with Brad is letting his guys throw up a bunch of stupid three's when we're not a particularly good shooting team.

I don't think our offensive problems are a scheme issue.

Why is Boswell able to so freely get the basket when no one else is?

Feels like we have a lot of players who need to be convinced to get downhill.
Good question. Part of the answer has to be he’s just that good. MP and AS tried to get to the basket and just couldn’t finish through contact. Bam is quick but as the frame to take contact.

Don’t think you crossed a line at all and I also didn’t intend to police anything, but I can see I did do just that (unintentionally)

I probably need to log off, it’s been a helluva day now

One glaring difference in between us and Uconn. They run a real offense that creates easy opportunities. We do not run a real offense. Imo, missed shots and shooting aside Brad was outcoached and his in game adjustments has been a weakness for as long as I can remember. Uconn offense is a machine.

foul trouble or he would have had more minutes, IMO

Or deep down some of us want to reach the heights that Duke and many other programs have by winning a champiinship and you're content being mediocre. Which means..... content fans are the ones keeping us miserable.
