No it's not. Coach had it correct. Referees were not calling him for 2, 3, 4 ,or 5 fouls. 1st half should have been up 10 with all his and Uconn fouls at rim. Just horrible the way game was officiated that 20 minutes. 2nd half we simply got blitzed.
We can agree to disagree. Clingan is an elite rim defender. You attack him in space on the perimeter, not at the rim. Officiating was suspect at times but you have to adjust at half time to the way it's being called. It is more than fair to be critical of our performance.

Wasn't our night boys... Great season of Illinois BB.. Thank you to all of the coaches and players for taking us along this ride with them. Good luck to all of the players as they move along to professional life or whatever awaits them. Thank you for the memories.

Well this is not how I would have wanted this season to end. Congrats to UConn, they are what they say they are. We needed to have our A game today and did not have it. We mucked it up for a half staying in contact but in the second half the wheels came off. Can't have your worst shooting performance of the season and stay in the game with the top team in the country. I am still so proud of this team and what they accomplished. Felt so good to walk around with a swagger because my team won the BTT championship and advanced to the Elite Eight. I will always remember this team fondly as you never know when you will see this much success again. Not getting any younger. Thank you TSJ, Hawkins, Marcus, Guerrier and Harmon for finishing your careers with the Illini. You all are greatly appreciated and have cemented your names in Illini basketball history.

Every year only one team ends the season with a win. It sucks it wasn't us, but if you told me we'd be an Elite 8 team at the beginning of the year, I'd be ecstatic. This team went through a lot. I'm only disappointed for them to go out the way they did. Thank you for an entertaining year.
Two, another one wins the NIT LOL
Sure glad I think maybe we've left the NIT in the rear view mirror for a while.

Hurts to end a great season with this kind of performance, but proud of all this group accomplished.

Big question....does Hawkins return? Could move his draft stock up a lot with a great year next year...
And he will be another year older. The NBA draft skews toward youth

Early in the season we beat FAU, I don’t know the +/- of it, but we got their big guy in foul trouble, and I think that was a key to that game.

We are a much better team now than we were then, and FAU is no UCONN, but I’m not sure we beat FAU if their big guy stays in the game.

Once Clingon stopped our drives (and we weren’t getting ANY calls), this was the longest of long shots. Hard to put the game in the hands of the whistles, but really our best hope was to go get Clingon out of the game or go crazy from three.

We tried going off on three on the second half, and look what happened then. Miss threes long, and they get run outs and dunks.

It was a sound strategy by Brad. And I’ve been critical of him as a strategist. I think Brad improved in many ways throughout this season, and that’s what gives me the most hope for the future.
This is all you can ask for. We tried something different to start the second half and it didn't work. Even the announcers were saying it was the right strategy we just couldn't make any shots. That was the one thing I said at halftime is the first 4 minutes of the second half were going to tell a lot.

UConn’s big man apparently can’t foul anybody and when everyone besides Domask decides to shoot 20% or less from the floor. You are going to look bad. Plus our defense and rebounding disappeared in the 2nd half. Great year just sucks to end with such a resounding thud.

Amazing season, tough finish. In the end, the Illini had no answer for Klingan on either end of the floor. Add to that many missed good looks, and the team got visibly demoralized early in 2nd half. The defense suffered as a result. UCONN has done that to teams all year (well maybe not 30-0 run). UCONN should easily win the rest of the way...they are that complete of a college team. I actually think an Edey/Klingan matchup would be interesting to watch (especially from officiating standpoint) champ game. I have a feeling Tennessee will beat Purdue tomorrow though. It might end up being least climatic Final 4 ever.

In any event, we should celebrate this team. An Elite 8 appearance is program-defining. Support the players (buy their apparel), buy elite 8 shirts, and smile for what this team accomplished (especially given some glaring shortcomings going into season). Late March Illini basketball is fun...let's build to April basketball in the future.

On to the recruiting thread!

Seriously I've seen the film. He's good...but he's not as talented as Edey.
Not sure I buy this. We played Edey twice and could have won both games if we shot a little better, especially the one at our place, nothing at all like today's game. If UCONN plays PU, I suspect Edey will get smoked by Clingan.

People gotta chill.

Bill Murray is proud of his son. He’s not a sellout. He’s a supportive dad.

The refs didn’t screw us. We ran into a team that’s gonna sweep the tournament by double digits again.

Danny Hurley was very complimentary of our team and Brad. He wanted to get his subs in. He wasn’t Bruce Pearl.

We lost. It sucks. But, the sun will come up again tomorrow. And the portal will entertain us.

Also I’m hoping UConn wins the whole thing.

Thanks to the starting 5, the surrounding cast of those on the bench, and those who hopefully stick around for more fun next year. Amani will be one the main cogs of the wheel, was very happy to see him contribute like he did. In the meantime, it'll be a long time until October for that 1st game, so settle in for lots of changes that hopefully keeps us right there as if we never missed a beat. The next time we'll even make a further run. Thanks again to the team, coaches, and fans, you're appreciated, you really are.

I thought we should have shot more 3s in the first half. Problem was you miss the shot and don’t get the rebound they got an easy bucket.

The Big Ten didn’t prepare us for how physical the game was. There were multiple times we were getting held. There was one outbound play were the opponent had both arms wrapped around TSJ

BU will have us ready next year

Reflecting on this game some more, just have to acknowledge that UConn is just that much better than everyone else right now.

The way UConn is completely connected both offensively and defensively reminds me of the 04-05 team. They play a different offense, but the way they whip the ball around and get you out of position, and then either take an open shot or drive to the hoop, their system is just that good. And then they can just dump it to Clingan in the low post, and have a high pick and roll that is basically the college version of lob city with Clingan and Johnson. On top of that they’re a big team across the board and have a 7’2” elite rim protector as the anchor and their bench is just as gifted as the starters it seems.

I love Auggie as much as everyone else, but imagine just having Clingan to guard Sean May for that one game…

that's a dude that was tearful and upset because he cares a ton. Ty is my dude, but he needs to get better this offseason and he needs to be better when the lights are on. He's gotta find a way to be confident enough to shoot a midrange shot.
I sure hope he can do that. I really do.
