They'll go with pods. Long distance games will be limited (for each school). With a bit of common sense (iffy), bad viewing times will be reduced.
They'll have to. 6 hour flight times for conference games is too much. Even the NBA limits this. But then that could lead to imbalanced schedules.

Positives: it means we (the Big Ten) aren't getting left behind. Negative: two superconferences sucks and its likely we're at the bottom of it for a while.

Really hope football does its own thing but basketball/other sports stay as they are with the current conference set ups/rivalries with the NCAA.

I know Oregon and Washington have to be in consideration, but I would hope that Stanford and Cal get added too. Those would be good B1G brands, and hey maybe ones we could beat in football every now and then!
Stanford and Cal are huge rivalry schools... I think they'd have to go together.

What about USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and.... NOTRE DAME.

Notre Dame is suddenly in a conference with rivals USC, Stanford, Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue with signature games against Ohio State, Nebraska and Penn State. This could finally be the move that makes this happen.

Dollars to donuts, it'll be 6 PAC schools moving to the BIG.
I'm not sure it has to be 6 PAC schools to be honest. I think Stanford and Cal are desirable and would fit the mold academically from the PAC, but I think this could spur wider change and the Big Ten would look at everything again.

Report USC/UCLA leaving PAC -12 for B1G

For the sake of the students, I hope this does not go through. Adding the east coast schools introduced 2.5 hour flights. Flying to LA is 4.5-5 hours. For the LA schools, it is even worse, they lose 2-3 hours on time zones on the way to the game. You are effectively giving up a day before each game and most of day upon return.

I am glad to see the B1G in the conference mix.

In the last 12 months the SEC/TX/OU/Big12 drama has sucked the air out of conference news and it seemed like the B1G was being left behind and the SEC was going to rule the world.

Not anymore.

As long as ND has a path to the playoffs, they'll never join a conference.

I still find this hard to believe. Sure, TV revenue increases, but that's a lot of miles (time and money) between LA and the rest of the Big Ten.

And what's the benefit to the Big Ten to adding half of the PAC 12? Are there really that many dollars added to split among 14 schools? And future revenues will get split by 20.

It makes the most sense for Notre Dame. But, with the Domers heightened sense of $elf, sensible thinking is sometimes sacrificed.

How hard would it be for them to leave the ACC, not only in their mini-football alliance but also in basketball? Does ND belong to the ACC for the Olympic sports too?

That would be great for the conference financially, but could we really handle the Michigan fan base and ND fan base in the same conference? (Don't tell my wife, an ND alum, that I equated those things, even though between you and me they are pretty much the same).

I'd be willing to bet that someone at the league office has run that math and has a pretty good idea about what sort of increased revenues to expect by adding certain schools.

Realignment is inevitable. Best to get some choice programs before another conference snaps them up.

If the B1G does end up pulling from the Pac-12, I wonder if they'll go after Oregon and Washington too. They'd fit in terms of academics, athletics, and desirable markets (Seattle and Portland).
