But those two last plays shouldn't have happened if they call the double dribble. Cavaliers got a gift.
If they call the Auburn foul(which they were trying to take), then the double dribble never happens. We can do this all day long.

Guy hit the three to cut it to one, Auburn's best foul shooter missed his second free throw and Guy stood up there, with the world watching....and knocked down three straight. Well deserved win. They found a way and in single elimination....that's all that matters.

Happy for Virginia. If they finish this off Monday night, they'll make a movie about this squad. To answer the most humiliating loss in modern sports history with a National Championship.....wow.

Plus, Tony Bennett is 100% class.

The last foul was a good and reasonable judgement call. The double dribble was a pure missed call that will haunt NCAA officials' administration for awhile.

Bennett is a great guy and all....but Purdue or Auburn should be in NC and not Cavs,.. that could be an interesting wrinkle in the movie too:)

Guy's 3 pointer that he made at the end was absolutely amazing!

Yeah, well, speaking of gifts, how about Dean Smith's 2 NCs back in the day?

THere's often a little luck on the way to a national championship. To win 6 in a row, you usually need a little. But yeah Virginia's gotten lucky twice.

But the fact that the Cavs shoved it to Pearl is ALL that matters to me.

Beard is one heck of a coach. Their defense is phenomenal and I love the motion offense
Clearly they watched our film against MSU - I don't know why more teams haven't done it, but if you focus on taking Winston out of the flow and try as hard as possible to not let him get the ball back, MSU struggles. They don't have anyone else out there who can handle the ball on the outside.

There are always calls in close games that may affect the outcome. You see it every year. Virginia got lucky, but they have nothing to apologize for.

I agree almost any team that wins 6 in a row to win the NCAA gets at least one lucky break along the way. The question is whether Virginia's two razor thin victories pulled out of hte fire mean they've gotten furhter than they should have, or are they capable of playing better against TT?

They're a #1 seed, so I'd probably say they can produce a bit more.

Talk about shoulda, coulda, wouldas.....Auburn was wildly lucky to get out of the first round. New Mexico State had them all but beaten. That game, the kid needed 3 out of 3 to send Auburn packing. An 80+ Percent would shooter missed 2 of 3. So, karma prevailed. It's what makes these three weeks the best in sports. This tournament has been one of the best that I can remember in a long time.

Interesting. I didn't see Auburn's first game. And it's turned out to be hte best ever run in Auburn history.

As a Virginia fan I'd be concerned. They've needed a big break in their last two games. Texas Tech look very good. Still, the bookies have Virginia as a slight favorite. If I were a betting man I'd probably say TT was the better value

Both of these teams totally obliterate a lot of narratives about what's impossible for certain programs in college basketball.

Virginia and Texas Tech were flat on their backs 10 years ago, Virginia firing Dave Leitao and Tech collapsing under Knight's doofus failson Pat. Virginia was irrelevant since the days of Ralph Sampson and Tech hadn't been to even the Elite Eight ever. Neither had a school administration or really even a fanbase that really gave a damn about the basketball program.

Neither school got here by cheating like Pearl, or by being miraculously blessed by five-star recruits for being such good little thirsty internet posters. Bennett was a nice coach at Wazzu, but neither spent insane money buying a "name" coach. Virginia took some time to build up to what they are now, but neither spent any time playing hopelessly uncompetitive basketball under the guise of "rebuilding" or "changing the culture".

Virginia was a top 15 team by January of year 3 and Tech was a top 10 team by January of year 2, in both cases almost exclusively with non-top 100 recruits.

They just found the right guy, established a way of playing, and got to work improving and winning games.

There are other ways to do it, but claims that the Virginia and Texas Tech way is impossible are flagrant, easily debunked lies, and on the contrary I think the evidence shows that that way is the smartest and most likely path to success.

We're nine million times better off than either of these programs were a decade ago. We can replicate what they've done with Brad Underwood, or we can replicate it without him. The path reveals itself right in front of us.

I this a dig at our program?..."neither spent any time playing hopelessly uncompetitive basketball under the guise of "rebuilding" or "changing the culture". "....honestly, it feels like we've been working on our culture (and some Seal training too)....for the last 10 years. Although some games and years have been somewhat competitive. I have hope for our future but not sure it will be at Tech pace .

So "finding the right guy", establishing "a way of playing", and "improving and winning games", is different from rebuilding or "changing the culture"?

Lol..ok.

Yeah, I don't buy that, either. "Culture" may be abused and overused as a sports term, but every winning program has a culture and a mindset of winning.

What's folly is this notion that building a new culture is sufficient for winning. It's not. Groce built a family culture at Illinois, and got nowhere because ultimately he was a poor basketball coach. But, a great X's and O's mind will probably also fail if he's not able to instill the kinds of habits and mentality you need to win.

Every highlite I've seen today about the Va-satan game describes the last second 3 pter foul called as " controversial "....It was a foul...case closed and kudos to the ref for calling it.....The double dribble was a glaring " missed call "....i said out loud " thats a double dribble " but was hoping no one heard me....lol

Poor ole Satan....payback , even for something long ago , is sweet and I'm still grinning that ole Satan thought he was going to the championship game but had victory snatched away ......

Since the 2013-14 season, Virginia has won the ACC regular title 4 times, finished 2nd once, and 5th once. Considering the recruits that Duke and UNC get, the general number of quality other teams in the league, and the lack of elite commits that Virginia gets... it's pretty incredible. Happy for them to see it finally translate to success in the tourney.

They were also 21-26 in the ACC in Bennett's first three years there. I wonder if fans were calling for his head after year two?
