Guy turned into Leron while leron ran towards the rebound. Leron won't get suspended because he didn't do anything wrong

I normally don't complain about officiating but that was a laughable effort from the zebras.

Specifically the overturned elbow to alstork and then the 3pt goaltending into a 3pt field goal and finke's 4th for boxing out.

Finke had a foul for posting up and boxing out a 7'1" 280 lb center. I mean come on

Having said that....can't have 19 turnovers and the last couple of possessions after we got within 3 left a lot to be desired.

the 3pt basket that was an absolute offensive goaltend then a foul called and wf got the ball then hit a 3pter was the most egregious bad reffing I have ever seen....

6 pts turned the game...BU should tear the refs a new one...

Agreed. Once the violation happened, the ball is dead and no fouls should've been called. Not Finke's best game, but it would've kept him on the floor without that foul.

I sure wanted to win that game and I think the team did as well.
As they have all year, they played hard.
But we are very aggressive and the refs got it into their heads to call fouls on one team.
That hurt. a lot, actually.
And several other officiating sequences were just downright strange.

Mark Alstork . . . man, I remember when I was so excited about him coming to Illinois. Now not so sure.

AJ, what can you say? Dude is killing it.

Mark Smith and Monte. Looking great for freshmen. I can give them a little time to finish their development, lol. I love their potential.

That hurt a little bit, but compared to the last 5 years, tonight was a walk in the park.
I'll hang around for a while more.

BU just said it was an 8 pt possession but he doesn't want to be suspended....he saw it and we saw it....why didn't the refs see it....?

And went up over his back, no less. But, again, I have no idea what the rules of basketball are anymore, apparently.

Two horrific calls (and lots of bad ones). I certainly wish we pulled out a win in this "learning experience" but I think this game does us good in the long run:

1. Understand the need to alter play to the refs
2. AJ needs to start
3. Need the us against the world mentality on the road

I think the officiating was terrible but I think if Smith goes to dunk the ball he gets a foul but this is not high school it's big boy ball and you can't bring a knife to a gun fight.

2. I think BU is trying to keep his 9man rotation but push comes to shove you gotta play to win...

In all seriousness, I'm glad the 3,500 Wake fans had an entertaining evening. I wonder if they're all going to the same place for the postgame, or like two restaurants just right next to each other?

I'm glad we got Underwood as our coach. I'm just hoping he's not plagued by not getting a big man like Groce was with getting his point guard. Black and Finke are great, just need some more depth and a banger. Hopefully one of the freshmen bids develops quickly.

The tough thing for me with Black is that he has a past of doing shady/semi-dirty stuff in games against other teams, not to mention his whole night club knife thing. I actually thought he put his arm out at the end when he hit him. You know it's semi bad when I immediately saw their player on the ground and assumed Leron took him out, I just wouldn't put it past him.

Underwood’s system requires so much energy. I think you have to have a deep bench to maintain the intensity.

Don’t understand how Williams is not getting more tick. Honestly the starting lineup should be mostly freshman with Funke and Aj. Other guys off bench

I'm pretty sure what they decided to do here isn't even allowed. You can't walk back a foul whistle and deem it "inadvertent."

Yep, and I am still steamed. If you see a replay, it looked like the lead elbow hit Alstork, but I would not call it flagrant. The second one clearly missed, and that is what they focused on.

Black, Finke, and Kipper need to figure out how to shoot or pass immediately out of the middle of the zone. Too much pause, dribble, pause....off balance.

Finke....does not appear to be comfortable at all plying in lane/pinch post area..was even lost on several plays late on where to set up?

Kipper...Athletic, at least tried to do something within the zone defense...too much, too late though creating turnovers.

Jordan...Whom would have predicted 2 years ago that this kid would be a go to shooter and leading the nation early in 3 pt %? Good for hard work payoff!

Williams...Did some good things, still think he has a shot at starting. Late pass turnover hurt though

Black...To silent for to much of the game, came on late?

Alstork...Defense and some rebounds, tried to be aggressive, just think he is a Horizen league player. Maybe some upperclassman experience payoff, not sure of anything much more.

Lucas...Up and down, but understandable as he is asked to be a leader in year 2 which is really 1.5?

Smith...Looked rattled and ineffective...the announcer actually said one thing that made sense...he used to take it and flush it in HS, not in college thought...as to adjust with physical mentality to maximize his athletic ability moving forward.

Frazier...Really looked eager to play, lost when he was though?

Refs totally turned this game upside down and not normally a "ref screwed us" kind of fan, but tonight it was evident. The differential was outrageous to say the least.

All this said, we will win a lot of games, we will mature, we will struggle with heavy "good" post player teams moving forward, and we will lose our fair share if we are dependent on the 3 as much as we look like we may have to.

Personally I don't think Smith takes enough shots to even be effective but I would rather see Williams and Smith get the reps and shots but our mentality has to be better this is a game we should've won....

Smith and Williams combined for about 10 shots between then for their combined 35mins of play...
