Wake Forest 80, Illinois 73 POSTGAME

Alstork is already dealing with confidence issues. I fear moving him to the bench will just make it worse.

Which is still why I thought it was weird to pull him right after he scored our first 8 points.

Totally seemed to mess with him as he was discombobulated and tentative when he finally came back in--after being on fire just a few mins before.

THIS. If the whistle was inadvertent, then why did the guy who blew it signal the offensive foul?

Do you know which ref signaled the offensive foul?

The crew is made up of 1 local NC guy, one guy from NJ, and another I think is from GA.

That's a good point. Sort of the "Groce-est" thing BU has done this year.

I don't see TJL doing anything anyone else can't do, and more than likely that someone brings more of a scoring threat. I'd like to see smith, damonte, Jordan, black, finke.

I think our zone offense looks rough. Pass it around the top back and forth with the guys flashing from the weak side. If you don't get the ball to the middle then your zone offense is literally just shooting 3s or driving when a defender over
Plays.

Were the officials good? No, but neither were the Illini. Porous defense with too many fouls and too many turnovers on offense led to this loss. Good news is that AJ appears to be be the real deal. Dropping 20 on an ACC team on the road is impressive. Not their finest performance but they will grow from this game. BU is a good coach, this team will continue to improve all year long.

There are some games where the officials are calling a game that conflicts with one teams style... this game though was different.

Illinois was called for twice as many fouls (24 to 12).

The missed goaltend that somehow became a 3 plus possession.

The reversed offensive foul / flagrant being called an inadvertent whistle.

If I had the game taped I skim through watching the officials to see if it was one guy.

we outplayed the refs by a wide margin....

Probably true, but if the Illini played well tonight the officials wouldn't have mattered. A tough game to lose but I do look forward to the continued growth of this team. I think they will be good, the only question is how long it takes to get there.

Sometimes you can win in spite of the refs, and sometimes you can't. The ones where you can't are the ones that seem the most unfair, quite obviously.

tonights game showed that we need all players playing to their abilities...taking Finke out of the game and losing 12 pts(14 pt average and only 2 pts tonite)along with the phantom calls and reversed calls only mean

we will need increased productive from others....

we got hosed ....no doubt in my mind but as BU said in the post game radio interview I don't want to be suspended...nuff said

In all seriousness, I'm glad the 3,500 Wake fans had an entertaining evening. I wonder if they're all going to the same place for the postgame, or like two restaurants just right next to each other?

Just back from the game. This is about right. Worst college basketball environment I've ever personally been to. I've been to rowdier libraries.

Venue: ok. Nothing to write home about. Sterile and not a lot of character.
Fans: zzzzz
Student section: nonexistent
Band: ok
Cheerleaders: 🐖
Concessions: pretty good. Beer on tap
Refs: 💩💩💩

Curious if BU is going to work on the 'goal tend your own 3 pointer and get the points and the ball out of bounds' play over this next week. It's like a rules easter egg no one knew about.

Saw a ton of positives and of course some negatives. The good things is that the negatives could be attributed to youth and lack of skill. These things will improve with time. The thing I love is that this team is creating an identity for the program. This is something I didn’t see under the last 2 coaches. Good things on the horizon!!

I'd give the refs 5 turds, but that's just me.

Would love to see the Big Ten say screw you ACC, he ain't getting suspended.

I would love to see the Big Ten say, "Screw you, ACC. He isn't getting suspended because he didn't do a damned thing wrong."

I really don't know what people are seeing. They see what they want to see. Leron was running straight the entire time. The WF player suddenly jetted directly in front of Leron's path. Both players had their heads up watching the ball. Leron had zero time to react, and it looked like Leron actually tried to lift his arms up out of the way. What in the world is Leron supposed to do there? He had maybe a tenth of a second to react, and he did. Unfortunately they still ran into each other and Leron's arm got a piece of the poor kid.

Yes, he has a bad reputation that is well-earned. But if he is going to be punished for that incident then we may as well close down the courts and turn the lights off because basketball can no longer be played as-is.

Unpopular take: we foul a lot and the reason Wake didn't foul much is because we settled for a lot of 3s vs. attacking the rim and drawing contact. On far too many possessions the ball never crossed the 3pt line until we shot it.

Losing to a bad to decent B1G team on the road shouldn't be a surprise this year and neither should this loss. I'm encouraged by the fight the guys showed and the offense should be a lot better in 2 months. Maybe we can be a middle of the pack B1G team.

We beat ourselves. Make no mistake. The refs stunk, but we made so many mind-numbing mistakes. Anyone focused on the refs after this game has lost the plot. Not that it matters. We're just fans. But the takeaway here is we have a lot of room for improvement, which is either good or bad. I'm not sure what to expect going forward.

We could come more prepared for competition and situation like this, but we chose to waste time on smashing Augstana.

It is so nice to listen to Underwood after the game. The last several years of postgame discussions have been one cliche after another. His words have substance.

Yes he did

I guess I saw that a little differently that you did. The Wake player stepped into Leron's path and they collided, albeit not at breakneck speed, and the Wake player dropped like he was shot. Overblown to call it dirty for sure, and, even knowing Leron's past, I saw it as incidental contact with a flop at the end.
