Week 2 Games

Final score in Gainesville: Kentucky 27 Florida 16

And one of the longest losing streaks vs. a single team has been broken as Kentucky finally beats Florida for the first time in 31 games. First win vs. Florida for UK since November 15, 1986. It had been so long that Steve Spurrier hadn't coached a game at Florida when Kentucky won against the Gators the last time.

One other thing to add regarding the Eastern Michigan-Purdue game.

One of the Indy sports radio guys I follow on twitter mentioned that there was a legitimate chance that the Boilermakers could start 0-5 and that's before playing Ohio State, Wisconsin, or Michigan State.

So Penn State was up 7-6 @ Pitt with a minute to go before halftime.

They win 51-6.

They'll be a load in a couple of weeks.

By the way......Samford is up 23-21 on FSU in Tallahassee in the 4th quarter.

WTF happened to Florida State football?

Willie Taggart might have the shortest tenure of any coach in the history of football. FSU fans ready to fire him now.

Is that right? Jason Benetti calls White Sox games. Most White Sox fans are pretty impressed with him.

Yeah. I've heard good things as well from my friends that are Sox fans. I think he's an alumnus of Homewood-Flossmoor too so he's a good south side kid.

He pretty much had a split doubleheader today too with calling the Northwestern game early and then the White Sox game tonight.

This D2 QB at Samford has thrown for 470 yards vs Florida State's defense. He's driving for the winning TD. Down 29-26

overall, a rough weekend for the bigten with Mich st also going down.

Yeah, that one hurt. NW losing at home to Duke, and Nebraska losing their opener to Colorado also hurt, though I certainly won't complain with those results.

But Penn State put a beatdown on Pitt on primetime national TV. Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin rolled. Iowa beat Iowa State. Indiana beat Virginia. So I guess in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't a completely lost weekend for the B1G.

Herm Edwards, who was not even close to Lovie's caliber of NFL coach and whose hiring was really something of a joke that kicked off a chaotic staff building process leading to two "assistant head coaches" and one "associate head coach", none of whom are coordinators, already now has a giant credibility building win.

That's pretty hard to take.

(Yes, I know he inherited a better roster situation, yes, I know we also beat a surprisingly disappointing MSU team in year 1, but still)

Yep. Don't like to see that.

I'm starting to realize how comforting, in a way, it was to have leadership that did absolutely everything wrong and didn't seem to care. At least then we could point to WHY we were so underperforming.

Whitman completely gets it, he's maxing out our resources and has unprecedented support from the University administration, and in the impossible crucible of the coaching search world he hit two absolute grand slams and enabled both of them with everything they need to succeed.

And we're worse than we've ever been.

It was pretty close to inevitable given both inherited situations that we'd be close to where we are now. Give it two years, heck even one, and then we can evaluate more truthfully.

Meh. Give him time, and I think he'll be exposed as just another middling coach in the Pac-12.

ASU has a long history of beating Big Ten teams in 100+ degree early September heat in Tempe.

And Michigan State......oof. Definitely the disappointment of the B1G so far. So many returning starters, so many seniors, and they're fortunate they're not 0-2. Of course, they could also just as easily be 2-0, but they haven't looked the part.

This is pretty much my feeling exactly. In the depths of the Beckman/MT era I had an outlet in how much I despised Beckman. If nothing else watching him flounder made me feel right. But now? I wanted Lovie to succeed, I thought he would succeed, and I still think it was the right move on Whitman’s part however it turns out. There’s no one to hate. There’s just a lot of bad football. And I don’t know what to do with that.

I think many reasonable/rational fans get this sentiment and feel that we should know more next year with both programs in their overall trajectory.

Lovie will finally have upperclassmen and Understood will have had a couple years of just his guys if there isn't another mass exodus or other unforseen issues.

If at that time, in my estimation, we don't have a team bowling and an NCAA bid, we can fully look towards another unilateral change which may include Whitman himself.

Until that time we'll have to continue to be dissatisfied with the results with some glimmer of hope that things will improve. Simultaneously we must have the mindset that we cannot have another Guenther situation in holding onto what isn't working.

Kent St 54 -14 beat down of howard. Ohio just beat them by only 6 a week earlier. Ohio was a top 5 MAC team last year (not sure if they are supposed to be better/worse). Kent St may still be a basement dweller, but they are an improved team compared to the last few years. First 50 pts in 10 years. Still dont think that absolves the Illini of somethings we saw last week, but it eases my pessimistic mind a bit. FYI Barrett had a pedestrian game at best, FWIW.

Arizona State also accepts anyone that applies

Through 2 games, Arizona QB Khalil Tate has a total of 15 carries for 22 yards. Last season, he rushed for 1,411 yards. I bet he's missing Rod Smith...

Maybe, or may not be quite as good a match for Sumlin's system as he was for the old system.
