Legendary collapse by Day and Smith (OC). OSU had Texas by the throat and should have finished them on several occasions. What a disaster.

Growing up in Columbus I can tell you the OSU staff might needed SEAL Team 6 or Delta for security after this.

Texas line on both sides wore OSU out. Slowly took the game over. The missed 3 by OSU would have sealed it tho!

I see @PleaseMakeABowlGame already made this point.

Look at just how HARD these Ohio State players work to tackle Texas here:

Yet, it essentially serves as a death sentence — because if they didn’t tackle him, they would’ve had the ball with 1:30 to go only needing a FG.

Overall, I just don’t think football staffs are as advanced as they should be when it comes to clock management.

(P.S. this is not a shot at OSU, because every other FBS school would’ve done the same thing. I do question the logic)

Jeremiah Smith was a monster too:

….

Which has a greater success rate:

Stopping Texas at the 1yd line

OR

Getting a FG with 1:30 left on the clock, with that caliber of wide receiver and quarterback?

it's just hilarious how iowa always wins every game like this, despite their offense looking horrendous 90% of the game.
They have an identity, something they can hang their hat on every season. Sturdy defense. The offense usually doesn’t have to do much to win games. Phil Parker has been the DC since 2012 and on the defensive staff since 1999.

Ryan Day is just not a game day coach. OSU wins a lot because they spend more $$ to get good players than most anyone else. When matched against equal talent decision making become critical.

At the time I thought they should have just thrown him into the end zone lol. tOSU’s clock management from that point on was absolutely brutal.
