I'm going to assume this is the first time in several decades (since the 50s? Ever?) that Illinois is ranked ahead of Michigan. Who would've thought we would be the higher ranked team heading into the 100th anniversary game? (We better beat Purdue)

I know we finished ahead of them in the B1G from 2008 - 2010 but I'm not sure if either team was ranked in the AP poll during that time.

From what I can tell, the last time both teams were ranked when they played each other was in 2001. #17 Michigan defeated #22 Illinois 45 - 20 in Ann Arbor.

Last time they played each other in Champaign as ranked teams was the year prior when #10 Michigan beat #17 Illinois 35-31.

Last time Illinois beat a ranked Michigan team in Champaign was 1983 when #9 Illinois beat #8 Michigan 16-6.

Got a little distracted from the original question, but it looks like the last time Illinois was the higher ranked team in a ranked vs ranked match up was 1990 in Ann Arbor. #19 Michigan beat #17 Illinois 22-17.

We were ranked in the first four polls of 2008 while Michigan was unranked at the dawn of the RichRod era.

We were ahead in the final postseason coaches poll in 2007 too, but behind in the final AP poll (typical).

The poll after we beat Ohio State in 2007 was the last AP poll with both Michigan and Illinois with Illinois ahead, #20 to #23.

We got super close during our 6-0 start in 2011 too but never quite snuck ahead (Hokeamania!).

Also the end of 2001, a bit of 1990, don't sell us short here.

Yeah I forgot we actually had decent football teams in the 2000s, but anything earlier is before my time.

The Kyle Hudson muffed punt in 2007 at a raucous night game MS and then Juice's record-setting day in the Big House in 2008 are well remembered.

But we don't talk as much about a 1-6 Illinois team galavanting for 500 yards of total offense at home, blowing out a Michigan team we were just laughably more talented than.

Illinois Football 2007-2016 is one of the most bizarre decades any program has ever had.

I get they’re undefeated and that’s undoubtedly exciting for the Hoosiers program. They should be proud of that. But I don’t get the hype. They’ve played nobody. Their best win is a mediocre Maryland team at home?

Have we really beat anyone with Kansas spiraling?
