I was as hard on Art as anyone last night. But, give him a week to prepare as a starter + a lesser defense in Minnesota and my hunch is that we see a slightly better version of him this coming weekend.

If he does indeed start, that is.
Art was a tick behind in everything he did. It looked like he was in slow motion when handing off the ball and the quick routes. I don't know what he was doing on those pitches. It looked like he was showing them the ball first, like here it is now I'm going to pitch it to you. I do hope this can be cleaned up with a week of reps.

He was very deliberate, whereas Tommy is smooth and deceptive. If Tommy can't go next week, hopefully a week practicing with the one's helps Art get more comfortable and better timed with the WRs.

Art badly needs some reps with the ones, IMO. Yesterday he looked badly out of sync on nearly every play. That can be fixed, hopefully, in a week
That he has absolutely no touch, rhythm or accuracy to his passing whatsoever has been abundantly clear at every step of his college career both at Rutgers and here.

If he's the starter, the offense needs to be completely different from the foundational first principles level. That's what gets me frustrated, it's not that our backup isn't very good, such is life. It's that he is such a non-fit as to be incapable of running the offense, in a different way but to just as large of a degree as Isaiah Williams would be, and yet there has been this game of make-believe about it through the whole offseason.

If we're honest about what Art is, we're capable of grinding out a win without an ocean of luck and Brian Ferentz painting his masterpiece. But if we lie to ourselves it spells big trouble. Even against a lesser defense.

And this DOES tie into this thread, because with a number next to your name comes big-boy expectations, you play to win the game!

Awesome that we're ranked. It's all a bit silly and subjective, but the team has earned that recognition at this point and I hope they feel buoyed by it.

Just a bit surprised it happened, but I’m loving it! Think about what most of these players have been through and how far they’ve come. From an embarrassing doormat to a legitimate contender for B10 West AND nationally ranked. Congratulations! They've earned it and they deserve it.

One game at a time, and please stay healthy.

Loren Tate - who I’ve never been a fan of (Think Chief Gritty without the optimism 🤪) said something interesting the other day. He said he’s seen 11 head coaches come and go and most of them he could tell were dead men walking their last couple of years. He feels very different about Bielema and our future success For what it’s worth.
Thank you for this...

Hopefully a full week of practice will help eliminate TOs which Art is prone to .....the pick at the 2 yd line and the near fumble... both in the 4 quarter of last nights game are prime examples......we turn it over 2-3 times against Minny I'm fearful of a different outcome....take care of the ball ..put 17pts on the board...let our D take care of the rest...GO ILL...INI

I just watched the "Matthew loves ball" replay and Art actually played much better than I thought immediately after the game yesterday. He had a few really good, accurate passes to go along with the really bad throws. Not ideal, of course, but not as bad as I was thinking yesterday. not nearly as in sync as Tommy has been but so what, you fight with the army you have not the one you wish you had.

How Art played at Rutgers is just as irrelevant as how Tommy played at Syracruse, IMO. Both players are much better now, IMO. I guess we'll see against Minny.

completely revamping the offense for Art is a little extreme, I think, and not the answer assuming Tommy can't play

I love your optimism but Art does not have the added dimension of running. This will be another test of our grit and resolve.

There are certain plays that you can run with Tommy that you can't run with Art. You will realize these plays when you are cringing. Hopefully Lunney has the same feel and calls a great game against Minnehaha.

Agreed, Artur struggled with almost every aspect of his game. Lunney didn’t help him with his Pete Carroll play calling impression.

Hope Tommy gets well fast👍🏻

I saw this and thought: When was the last time the football team was rated higher than the basketball team? Better yet, when were they both rated? My guess is it has to be close to twenty years ago.

Both were #7 on New Year's Day 2002.

Both were ranked in the fall/winter of 2011 at different points, but football had dropped out by the time basketball had briefly snuck in.

I think the AP Preseason Basketball poll gets released a week from today, that's when it happened last year, it is possible we could break that streak.

Edit. Sorry.. replying to early question.

2007-08. Basketball was down. Unranked all year, but they almost won the BTT. Football ranked between 13 and 20 during basketball season.

I could have framed that picture and hung it as a poster on a wall in my house and left it there for twenty years, looking at it every day, and I probably still wouldn’t have made that connection. Can I bring you with me the next time I hit the casinos?
Lmao I only play Blackjack because of my great match skills
