I’m one of the few neutral court game apologists WHEN it makes sense. For example, Braggin’ Rights is so much more special in St. Louis than it ever could be on both campuses, and I’ll die on that hill. On the other hand, these “Champions Classics” between the Blue Bloods would be so much cooler in their historic gyms than in random NBA arenas in random markets.

In that spectrum, I put Rutgers hosting a Big Ten Saturday game at MSG decidedly on the “it works” side. It has the appropriate connection to at least one team and thus a cool atmosphere. Can’t wait to get the UC game back next year!

Why is the Rutgers/MSU game at MSG? Does this count as a home game for Rutgers?
There is a Big Ten Super Saturday game at MSG every year, featuring Rutgers almost every year (an example of a non-RU matchup was the year we upset Maryland at MSG). In an alternate world where Illinois joined the SEC, imagine that conference aggressively wanting different legacy members playing the Illini at the United Center every year on a Saturday for the exposure.

As far as classification, I believe the NET classifies ANY off-campus game as neutral; crowd makeup and distance are irrelevant. For example, we did not play an “away” game vs. Alabama in Birmingham, it was classified as a neutral court matchup (even though ‘Bama chose to move a home game to that location for that game).

Rutgers is bad and these stud freshmen they have are underwhelming. Surprised MSU not up more

But not the whole starting 5,which was reminiscent of the Juwan covid era giving them the B1G regular season championship.Furthermore ours was in the pregame injury report and not saying it after you get embarrassed.
Brad went on a rant in the post game about Tomi and the illnesses across the board. Posters today are trying to confirm that we're all healthy to beat Northwestern.

So, we're casting some stones here.

from here on out, MSU shall be referred to as the IU Football team of college basketball

Regarding your last paragraph, the link below explains how previous games at MSG have been designated home games for Rutgers.

A quick look at the Net Rankings website appears they are still viewing it that same way.

Hmm, that’s really bizarre. MSG certainly is no more of a “home game” for Rutgers than Birmingham is for Alabama, haha. What a great deal for MSU.

Also, wow … as frustrated as I’ve been by our team lately, I’d be pulling all my hair out watching this if I were an RU fan.

Oregon trailing Minny by 4 with 15 minutes left in the second half.

Props to the Gophers for having underratedly loyal fans. They have a VERY mediocre history, and they’ve been awful lately … but the place is decently full every time I see them play at home and MUCH more full than comparably bad programs across the country. I mean, they regularly draw twice as many fans as UCLA…
Hangin on by their fingernails right now

It's cold up there! What else is there to do? :)
