UW and Rutgers having a great “relegation battle” game.

The B1G format of 3 teams missing out means all the lower teams this week are playing hard and have something to play for.

It might not have been obvious but this format has a real advantage for making otherwise meaningless games matter.

The (finally) ranked Illini women are 21-5. They play at #3 UCLA tonite.

The Illinois Wesleyan women clobbered North Central last nite (at NC) 79-55. In doing so, they clinched the CCIW title outright. This means they will get to host the conference tournament. Team is currently ranked #4. A super season for the lady Titans! If they win the conference tournament (or maybe even if they don't), they will most likely host a first round NCAA 4 team pod.

It sucks to be trending down into an abyss.... and watching others (like Mizzou) gaining momentum and finishing strong.

Even if we get healthy.... I think we have lost significant confidence and will have to start from scratch on having "swagger".
To put the “trending down” into perspective, Illini are 4-5 over last 9 games. Minnesota is 6-3 over its last 9 games. Who had that on their bingo card. At least we stopped Minny from being 7-2.

Self and Cal lost their decided "advantage" once NIL started.
Their $$ are still there. The same folks that found a HS dropout Mom a $50k job, a "cheap" apartment and a sweet lease on an Escalade are the same folks now funding their NIL. As you stated their advantage has now shrunk considerably with NIL available to everyone. We will get to see how the traditional powers fare in the new world of CBB.

That is quite debatable since pretty much every team we’ve played, some random guy always seems to have a career scoring game.

Tonje is far from a random guy at this point. He's now the likely favorite to win Big Ten POTY.

He got hurt after 8 games at Mizzou but he was averaging less than 3 points per game when he did play and obviously that was on an awful roster. Not sure why he was only averaging ten minutes per game, but it seems to be working pretty well for both sides now.

Seeing Mizzou play this year, they are obviously more talented and healthy but I remain baffled that they couldn't even luck into a single conference win last season. The SEC wasn't even as good as it is this year.

Rutgers wins in OT without making a field goal. 8-12 on FT.
Wash made 2 fgs for 4 points, no FT

Random thought... I'm pretty excited for the MVC tournament. Drake is obviously the front runner, but it would be fun to see Bradley or ISU knock them off. Bradley went 1-1 against Drake, and ISU lost 2 close games to them. I'm also hoping the seeding doesn't end up having ISU and Bradley have to play each other, before getting a shot at Drake.

looking at Self, I can see him retiring soon. Definitely not having fun.
He can break the wins record before turning 70 even if he slows down a little. Doubt he goes anywhere.

Probably right now Smart money on B1G POTY is Branden Smith.

If the season were over today, Smith would win. But with 4-5 games still to go, Smith's arrow is pointing down and Tonje's is skyrocketing.

Wisconsin is also now ahead of Purdue in the standings and recently won at Mackey by a good margin in a game where Tonje dominated and Smith really struggled.
