That OSU win puts Michigan at absolute death's door to get out of the 14th seed. The only way they can now do it is if they win out, Rutgers loses out and Wisconsin is the highest non-Purdue non-Illinois seed. The odds of that happening is roughly 1 in 10,000 as of Michigan tipoff.

At this point would anyone be surprised at all if OSU made another run to the BTT Semis?
Wouldn't be far off what the Illini did in 1999, beating a Final Four-bound OSU team in the BTT semis after a 3-13 conference slate.

Oh, and I can't resist pointing out that the NCAA vacated 26 of the the Buckeyes' wins and their 5 NCAA tourney wins that year.

And Michigan isn't going to win another game.

That was the BTT I will likely remember the most in 20 years. It was just special. One win away from the automatic qualifier and causing a bracket meltdown. I thought we were going to pull it off. You knew when that young class turned into upperclassmen they were going to be a really special group. Eff those '01 refs and their Bill Walton cheerleader.

Get ready Pru. I looked it up this afternoon: the last time Michigan failed to secure 10 wins in a season was 42 seasons ago in 1981-82 under Bill Frieder in his second season. 7-20. And the time before that? The mid-'60s.

Me, too. In the final they hung with MSU until half, then got blown out. You could see at the beginning of the 2H that the guys were completely gassed halfway through their fourth game in four days.

O$U is a bubble team. Needs more wins but their resume of good wins is as good as anyone and no bad loses
They lost at Michigan and were swept by Indiana. They're about 5 wins shy of being a bubble team right now, T-Rank has them as the 9th team out as of now (Iowa 6th). They're probably 8th in the B1G pecking order for a NCAA tourney bid, but they won't have a chance to pick up any more good wins until probably the 3rd day of the B1G tournament.

They need to win their next two games. To have a shot. They also need other bubble teams to lose a couple games. Yes they did not take care of business in a few games and have no margin for error.

A 20 or 21 win O$U team would be hard not to consider

also aside from losses to Rutgers, Nebraska and Minnesota*, yeah I guess.
@Nebraska and @Minny (as of today) are Q1 losses for Northwestern.

They only have one Q2 loss: at Rutgers (NET 98). Illini have two Q2 losses: at Penn State (NET 94) and home against Maryland (NET 69).

Illini's only have 4 Q1 wins: MSU, FAU (37 NET), @tOSU, and @Maryland.

NW also beat MSU at home and won @Maryland. They also beat us, Dayton (20 NET), and have a great Q1a win against Purdue; Illini have no Q1a wins.

I stand by what I wrote; other than the Chicago State loss, which knocks them down a lot, NW's resume looks similar to the Illini's as of today.

They would need to win their next two games, and at least make the BTT final to have a realistic shot. That would give them 2 more good wins, likely.

tOSU has only won a single road game this year (@ Penn St). They are not getting a bid unless they run the table. IMO

Agreed. We have no truly marquee wins. We're the beneficiary of the NET being quirky.

Blowout wins+ No bad losses > Superior wins + one really bad loss.

We haven't beaten a team ranked in today's top 25. We have beaten the NET system however, which is the most important thing.

What is nu 's 30 point loss to us considered as ???

OK whatever. Their resume is not similar to ours and it will never be. Their losses are much worse than ours. We beat them by 30 without our best player.

My husband and I and two of our friends went to the Billy Goat early that day for that MSU BTT championship game and scalped tickets. We went through the gamut of emotions of Illini fans: with high hopes we were so excited to get tickets, that first half was incredibly awesome, the second half sucked, and we left feeling like crap. As all too often what has happened to us over the past 50+ years of fandom, we were still proud Illini fans who never gave up hoping for that ‘W’…
