Oregon lost to Michigan. That's 4 straight loses now for the Ducks.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who sees just how big of a mirage January 2nd really was. That's depressing.

Interesting that the ref reached to grab the ball before it hit out of bounds there at the end. Oops! Must be the Willard Effect.

Was it HighKnees? Seems to be in the mix a lot lately.
There was always something "off" about his officiating to me, and it was not the high knees thing (which he's said several times is to keep his hamstrings loose during a game). Now I see it - the guy is way too close to play far too often. You actually lose a lot of your ability to see a play once you get past an optimal distance away from the action. In other words, sometimes it's a lot better to be 15-20 feet away from a play with a great angle than 2-3 feet from a play with a terrible angle.

Speaking from my experience working soccer, more often than not the calls I miss - particularly high-speed/high-intensity fouls where I should have either cautioned or ejected a player instead of just calling a foul - occur when I'm too close to a play rather than too far from it. I lose the full context of the play. Anderson needs to take that to heart and not be breathing down the necks of the players involved in the play.

Man, I have to like Brooks Barnhizer now... this is so much better than the usual over-processed "announcement to [insert fan base name here]" messages from players. Really tough break for him.

I liked him before. Tough, savvy player. Terrible news.

I really like Nick Martinelli, too. Suburban Chicago guy (Glenbrook?) no power conference gave a look to. Decommitted from Elon after its coach left and Collins offered him. I saw him play v. Maryland here in DC last February. It was his coming out party. Dominated. Great story.

Regarding NIL money, Barnhizer related the surprise that he and Ty Berry felt when Coach Collins reassured the two players during last year's NCAA tournament:

“Coach came up to is and said, ‘After this year, we’re going to take care of you.’ We were like, ‘What? We don’t need this. We’re ready to play,’” he said.

“It’s a blessing that they’re trying to do that for us. One thing about guys in our program, we love ball. That kind of stuff is just icing on the cake. We just love this program.”

If I understand the quote rightly, I'd have to say that people are all over the place on money, playing time, and committment. I guess the very different ways that guys on a team and their coaches and fans react to this stuff makes it hard to judge and hard to predict what's going to happen with a roster.

Looks like Claude is out tonight. I actually think SC could give Purdue a game with him, even at Mackey. To give Purdue trouble I think you need 1. Athletic, sticky guards, preferably with size, to bother Smith and 2. Size and athleticism in the front court to bother TKR. SC has both. Plus Claude is a drop coverage killer as we know all too well. I don’t think Purdue could have stopped him.

It is what it is, but frustrating to see teams on the other side of injury luck.

Let’s get healthy, find our 3 point shot, and win at least 3 more games and see what we can do in March.

Watching Purdue and USC on now and the Boilers are up 10 on their home court. When I compare their players versus ours, it is my opinion that we definitely have an advantage in terms of talent. They are an older team than us, but not many players I would take over our players.

Purdue's record is 10 and 2 in conference and we are 7 and 6. We have a young team and have looked very good at times, but Purdue is much more consistent than we are. Clearly their age and the advantage of many of their players playing together for more than a year helps them. I also believe that coaching has something to do with it along with our injuries... oh, what might of been!

So far looks like St.John’s is having that kinda game.

Do you see how Hurley talks to his players? His players feed off that. He gets a lot of crap on here but Underwood would learn a lot from him.

In contrast, I really dislike the way Hurley talks to his players. I think Hurley injects a huge amount of energy into his team (good!) and I don't see him belittle his guys (good), but I think he nonetheless sets a really lousy example of behavior for his players. I know Hurley is a GREAT, and truly successful coach, but I do not think he is perfect, and I do not think the way he behaves is the right way to go about leading a team. My opinion.
