Your daily reminder that other good teams lose, too. Many of them to teams worse than them. Sometimes, they lose to bad teams! Illinois is deserving of the Top 10 ranking because as much as "they haven't beaten anyone" and "they almost lost to average teams at home", a lot of other teams are also losing. Lots of parity this year, and Illinois is winning more of those games than other teams. 17-5 / 8-3 is pretty damn impressive.

Calling it a one possession game is such a disingenuous take that I shouldn't even respond.

I do not think the final 5 minutes play out the same way if Purdue doesn't have a 15 point lead at the time. But like you said, I'm not here to tell anyone else what to think.

And it was a one possession game, but the team leading had the ball. If they make 1 of 2 free throws, it becomes a two possession game. At no point during the entire game was Purdue in danger of losing the game.
Now that's a reach. 🙄

Freakin' Nevada and Steve Alford won. Bummer. I can't stand him and will continue to not stand him as long as he's coaching.

Wow, I've been here in one form or another for about 19 of those......... invested a LOT of time on IL.com since opening the site that very 1st time, and I don't regret a single minute of it!! I remember when Dan changed the formatting of the chat to what it is now. Brilliant move!!! I recall the tapatalk days and whatnot.... I certainly remember the old guard of posters, OF, GHD, Yates, Dayton, and many more! There have been some fantastic folks on here over the years, Dr's, Lawyers, Judges, Coaches, Players, Parents....... Great memories!!

On any given night. That's really this season in a nutshell. We're anywhere from a top 30 team to a top 5 team. There's about 20 other teams like that.

I feel like the game today has lost a lot of the mental toughness that a lot of the great teams had. The ability to bring it at a high level almost every night. I had a sense that we had a bit of it prior to the suspension. However, the way Missouri has imploded makes me wonder if some of that was a false read.

Regardless, we're a threat to go deep or exit early. Just about anyone is.

I don’t think teams are any less consistent than they were in the past. Looking at the top 10 in KenPom in 2003, here were their final records:

1: 32-4
2: 30-8
3: 28-5
4: 28-4
5: 25-7 (the Illini!)
6: 26-7
7: 26-7
8: 30-5 (Syracuse, national champs)
9: 27-7
10: 25-7

In 1989, the final AP Poll top 10 averaged 5.8 losses each on the season. 5-10 each had 7.

It’s hard to win college basketball games.

We never had the ball with a chance to even tie the game. The game was never in doubt.

There is no actual definition of "playing them down to the wire" but never even having a chance to tie the game sure ain't it for me.
The game was in doubt when we were down three with 14 seconds left. If PU turns it over, or misses free shots, anything can happen ...

I'm sure that you loved all the Lawyers that came out of the woodwork for the TSJ situation 😲 I noticed a couple people mentioned Chalmers. Why does he get mentioned like he's in memoriam? If it's the same one that I'm thinking of, he still posts here. If only we had a Skinner

Before this, it was Brumbry’s Illiniboard. That was a crazy a$$ forum.

Loyalty definitely a step up.
Oh yeah, the good ol' days of the internet. Nothing like hearing that dial up tone. There is one major benefit to analog signals though...simply pick up the phone. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many times I "trolled" my siblings when they went over their time :ROFLMAO:

I joined in 2007 also.....I can't remember posters from earlier today......
I really really can't...
I feel that Pru.

I originally joined after we hired Zook. I remember I got really upset one night (Loyalty after dark) and shut down that user name. But joined back up a week later. Been here ever since. The highs on the board might be the Mikel Leshoure game at Wrigley - game thread (I know, right?!), Brandon Paul in Maui (I stayed up late for that one with some other faithful Game threaders), and the entire home football schedule in 2007. The day we signed Paul, Bertrand, Richardson and Griffey was also a great day.

Conversely, The day after the Jamar Smith fallout, Darius Paul, and maybe Kendrick Nunn might be the low lights. All said, both good and bad, I couldn’t imagine sharing those experiences with any other folks.
