Illinois' win probability was 87.1% when we were up 3 with the ball in the Nebraska game, due to 48 seconds being a lot more than 14 in that situation. But then Nebraska got a turnover and made 2 free throws to get within 1 by 32 seconds remaining which obviously is much, much more threatening to win the game then we ever got at Mackey and it went from there.

You can get the ball back ya know? You're trying to say it wasn't a close game because we didn't have the ball with a chance to tie. It's okay with me if that's your definition of a blowout, but I won't agree with it.

Purdue's win probability never dipped below 92.3%. That's not a close game.

EDIT: We have a 90% chance of beating Michigan at home. Purdue was never worried. Nor am I about beating Michigan at home.

Coaches/programs that "aren't built for tournament success" are a myth.

National Champion Scott Drew
Sure you build a team to be as successful as possible. If you do that enough times you’re eventually going to make a run in the tourney. It’s dumb to judge the success of a team on a single elimination tournament run though. FAU this year is a great example. Good team, no doubt, but def not a top 4 team. They got hot and likely had a string of adventitious matchups last year.

I think I kind of agree with everyone on this last issue concerning whether or not we're really good. As we progressed into the season we started to anticipate that the ceiling was potentially very very high.

It seems to me that we were beginning to approach that ceiling, certainly not reach it. Losses to Marquette and Tennessee bear this out. This seems to be Gritty's point.

The loss of TSJ & then his reinstatement has caused us to start from scratch two additional times since the beginning of the season. This is the perspective that Louisville seems to be seeing. We haven't come close to our potential ceiling.

Both Purdue and UConn are playing very close to their ceiling simply because of the amount of time playing together.

I am hoping for a steady incline to a ceiling that shocks the basketball world!!!

Back on topic...

I'd like to see a Dayton loss here tonight. Their metrics aren't great and they don't have any great wins, but they're creeping up to us in seeding somehow. They're a 4 in the bracket matrix right now, albeit the last 4 (16th).

Oh don't worry lol I been here since the days of the one poster who used to pretend he was an "insider" version of an old man/Abe Lincoln, gio568936 with the barbershop Intel, and RooksTaylorFan and Second and Chalmers.

Those were some dark days on this board lmao
Dude, S&C simply must be CG... and if not, they're both top three all-time posters here imo. Wicked smahhht.

Nah, different writing styles and CG posts are not lengthy enough. S&G's posts were novellas.

It's hard to believe a team that's 8-3 in the Big Ten and 9th in Kenpom has as thin of a resume as we do.
I can understand your perspective. Just curious, what is our worst Kenpom game this year? From what I’ve read (I don’t have all the KenPom numbers in front of me), we haven’t played alot of bottom feeders as compared to other competitive teams.

We played #332 (out of 360) Fairleigh-Dickinson and then #325 Eastern Illinois.

Here is the nonconference strength of schedule for the top 10 KenPom teams:

222
10
274
161
15
27
19
40
239 <---Illinois
21

We improve to 8th best when factoring in conference games.

Those are some names I haven’t seen in a long long time. On that note, where did the Judge go?

I’ve been on (with this user name)
Since 2010. I think my first user name only lasted few years before that. @Dan what was your first year of operation?

I worry about our defensive intensity. We are deep enough to play defense harder. Players shoot great percentages against us because we aren't defending them intensely enough. It's not just bad luck after bad luck after bad luck. You create poor shooting percentages just like you allow very good ones.

AP Media poll has us #10. Coaches poll has us #12.

Analytics:
Kenpom: #9
Torvik: #13
NET: #13

I'd like to see your reasoning why you're so skeptical that we are a top ten team when almost every metric has us in that range, and why they must be inaccurate
To give the doubters some credit, we’ve only been #23 in Torvik’s rankings since TJ came back from suspension. Not bad, but not inspiring.

Because we have a really good team? Name one Illini basketball team that has had to go through what these guys have the last month and a half. Do you know how many teams would have imploded. Ya'll don't even know half of what has gone down behind the scenes. This is a really talented team that plays together and truly loves each other. The sky is the limit for what they can still accomplish. And as your resume stance goes, we literally have the best team in the country at home next month. There won't be 10 more other games across the entire country the rest of the regular season to have as good of a win
I'm sure that's for the best. There's no way this forum would overreact to anything, right?

But then logic would dictate that we're not actually WORSE with TJ playing 35 minutes as opposed to 0 minutes. Sample size is growing though. It's been weird, that's for sure.

Geez, just stop it. Someone will always be right behind us in seeding. If it's not Dayton 'creeping up', it's someone else.

It's February. Do you feel that the Illini are unfairly underrated or something? I'll grant that hoping for everyone else to get nicked and _look_ worse is a common attitude, but it's not a winner's attitude.
