Not sure if you factored this in, but while we cannot be sure how much the BTT results matter through Saturday ... it has been confirmed by the Committee and is widely accepted that the result of the BTT Championship Game cannot be taken into account, as it takes place WAY too late on Sunday (e.g., our 2021 BTT Championship Game vs. OSU that went into OT actually pushed back the Selection Show a bit and resulted in the end of our game having 6+ million views!).
One of my favorite memories from last year's tournament season was the BTT Championship win immediately transitioning into the selection show without even have to change the channel. Just the vibes were at an all time high, it was such a fun afternoon. And I say this as someone who was lucky enough to be in Omaha last year.

If the gazillion threes are open ones....keep shooting them. Hard stop on that one.
"Open" is a relative term. Some shooters need more space than do others. Some guys have a higher release than do others. Some guys have better footwork and/or handling and so setup their shot better.

We haven't got one outstanding, in-game (B1G-style) shooter on the roster. We have a couple of solid shooters, not excellent. Several marginal shooters who can make THEIR kind of open shot (more time, more space, fixed distance, fixed angle).

Given the on-average mediocre 3-point shooting accuracy of this roster, we should shoot somewhat fewer threes. We'd win more games that way.

To agree Illinois doesn’t have great shooters

There are many teams that shoot better from 3 than our highest % 3 point shooter

Goode became that great shooter this year (from line and 3 pt line)

If Illinois makes the big ten tourney final, they likely will have the 3 highest rated games in cbb season up to that point.... 2 coincidentally because of what they follow or precede but who cares

Up to a 6 in Bracket Matrix.

4 seed is a very real possibility if we win 2 this week. Win 3 and I think 4 becomes likely. Win at least 1 and 6 seed is our floor.

We need to root against:
Purdue
Clemson
Arizona
Oregon
Michigan
UCLA

And then I think we want Kansas to win their first two so they can knock Arizona off, but if they make it all the way to the B12 championship, they could pass us.

Because we're on Purdue's and Michigan's side of the BTT bracket, we probably can't pass both of them unless we make the BTT championship. Ideally, Purdue beats Michigan and then we beat Purdue.

We're in a great position.

Also need to root against Mizzou, Marquette, and BYU. They could put us back on the 7 line if they go on deep runs. So I wouldn't say 1 win gives us a 6 seed floor just yet.

I think a bracket could shape up pretty interesting for MSU as a 2 seed with UConn and Gonzaga lurking as potential 7s.

I know the committee "doesn't look at matchups" but yeah right, I believe that.

Maybe.

I guess I just don't see Mizzou going on a deep run in the SEC or BYU getting past Houston.

With Marquette, I just think we have a superior resume to them and I think as long as we win one more, it'll stay that way. Feel the same about Louisville.

I think some of us have some negative confirmation bias about our bad stretch of games (particularly the Duke game). Overall, I'm aligned with a lot of your thinking. I think a win tomorrow seals a 6 seed. A bad loss could (likely??) slip us back to a 7, but our resume screams 6 a lot more than I think a lot of people think it does.

I'd also agree that I don't see OSU moving up into the NET top 30 unless they make a run to at least Saturday and they get some help. For me, Iowa is the better matchup for us, so I'd prefer to see Iowa pull the upset today so we have a better matchup on Thursday and get that win to lock up the 6 seed.

Naw, you're doing it wrong. They're clearly going to make us a 3 and bump UConn all the way up to the 6 in our bracket, just to mess with our fans. Then to add injury to insult, they're going to knock Houston down to a 2 and put them in our bracket so if we beat UConn we face Sampson. And then we all know who the 1-seed in our bracket will be and what the story line there will be - Auburn. This is the only way to ensure the billions of highly invested Illinois fans will tune into the tourney.

I want Illinois to do well in the BTT and stay a 6 seed, or bump up to a 3 seed.

Neither of those things seem possible.
There is a world of thought that if Illinois were to do well in the BTT, it would more easily explain away their dead period as sickness and injury, so a metric outlook that is a borderline 5/4 resume could jump to a 3, especially if they beat two prospective 3/4's along the way (Maryland, Michigan/Purdue).

As an example, here's a metrically generated bracket based on Torvik's ratings, NET, and ELO, which entail about 2/3 of the metrics involved with the selection committee, and it currently has Illinois 17th overall, or just outside the top 4 seeds: https://barttorvik.com/tranketology.php

We will not be a 3 I can guarantee that

I'm very likely looking at this too simplistically, but I think the following happens with Illinois.

Win Thursday, and the 6 is locked in
The next two wins through Saturday would potentially bump Illinois up a seed line per win depending on what else is happening with teams around Illinois.
Sunday is irrelevant from a seeding perspective.

Predictions are pretty much useless with this Illinois team, but I'll make one anyway. I think Illinois wins tomorrow and Friday, loses Saturday, and gets a 5 seed.

This! I don't understand why anyone wants the Illini to move up to the #4-5 seed. The Sweet 16 opponent as a 4-5 (Bracketmatrix) - Auburn, Houston, Duke, Florida (if #1 seeds are not upset, and we beat the other #4-5.) Sweet 16 opponents as a #6 (if we beat the #3 seed, and #2s advance) - Alabama, Tennessee, MSU, St John's. I realize that we will have to play a #1 eventually, but I would much rather it be in the Elite 8. Am I missing something?

One thing to keep in mind is that with a 4-5 seed, your second round opponent is someone like a St. Mary's or Arizona, where as with a 6/7 seed, you're looking at, say, Iowa State or Kentucky in the second round. Sure, the sweet 16 opponent is tougher, but getting to the sweet 16 is easier.
