This is fun let's keep winning.

I wonder how much Rodon's move to the rotation has galvanized the clubhouse.

I think there is an impact from not going into every 5th game accepting a loss, but I'd guess it's more coincidence than cause/effect. Now, defensive improvements could dramatically alter the mentality of the pitching staff in particular.

Absolutely correct, IO. As a former pitcher, it really sucks when you do your best to induce ground balls...and the guys behind you don't come up with the play. As Stoney said the other night, then you take it upon yourself and just kinda say, "Well, I guess I just gotta strike everybody out!" And we know that doesn't work...

It really is night & day in regards to Sanchez v. Micah in the field.

I don't think its as big of a deal on a team that has an established ace like Sale, and a relatively veteran staff (everyone but the fifth starter has been an established starter).

That said, I do think the fact that he's in the rotation and the change at 2B sends a message jobs will change if you don't produce. The teams record now falls in line with what most people predicted at the beginning of the year now, so more of a return to our mean than anything else.

Somehow we're the 3rd worst in the AL at getting on base, but have the 2nd most GIDP in baseball.

That's actually amazing.

Never doubt the magic 8 ball

Welp, after this team limps back to Chicago after this 11-game road trip from hell, we can start discussing potential fire-sale trade partners
Sounds like Houston is already looking at Samardzija. Id see what we can get for Robertson. A good closer on a bad team is worthless. Alexi to the Mets? 3 guys on this team can't be traded. Sale, Abreau, and Rodon. Everyone else is up for grabs.

I just hope it is not a fire sale. Too often it seems teams trade guys just to trade them. I get the salary dump part, not sure it applies here. For once I'd like to see the White Sox be able to get more than you would normally expect, given it is a trade deadline. It sure seems like we overpay, so why not get overpaid ;)

Samardzija, Alexei, Robertson. Those are the three guys that could really return something other than the untouchables. And I might add Quintana to that list. He has a team friendly contract for several more years. He's not untouchable, but I think it is unlikely that someone gives us what we'd want for him.

Samardzija could be the 2nd best SP on the market behind Hamels. There are two ways to play it, trade him now to a team that is willing to pay a premium to not have to deal with the deadline shenanigans, or hold him until a team panics at the last minute. I'd prefer the former. Right now, there are not clear sellers so we essentially own the sellers market. Find an anxious team that is willing to pay for an extra few starts and move on. The roster of position players is just so dismal, that there is little use in keeping him until July.

Maybe trade everyone was a little bit of an over reach on my part. But outside of Samardzija, and Alexi, I don't know who will bring much back. Not even sure you get great prospects in return for Alexi. Maybe the Mets or Yanks give something up for him. I think you ask for as much as you can from Samardzija. Look at what the cubs got for him last year. And they gave up a good prospect for him. Maybe a team with closer issues makes a great offer on Robertson. Seattle maybe?

Looks like you beat me to it.

Right on all 3 guys. And all 3 look good for multiple teams. I think the Cubs, Cards, and Houston (3 teams with prospects to move) would look hard at Samardzija. Both NY teams need SS help badly. If they are in the hunt around the deadline I bet Alexi could bring something back. Any team at the deadline needing bullpen help would love to get Robertson.

Hahn has always said get to the 60 game mark and figure out the direction to go. I don't see any direction to go other than get ready for next year. It sucks because I had high hopes for this team.

Sorry, I didn't take it as trading everyone. Rather I was focused on not dumping guys for relatively nothing.

Not sure I'd trade Robertson after less than one year. If you hope to contend next year, you'll need him.
