Wisconsin 24, Illinois 10 POSTGAME

couldn't believe announcers went on and on about some calls and said nothing about phantom George "fumble" which looked like inc pass

should have run 4x instead of kicked the missed field goal. somebody said it; against #5 we should've run on some of those fourth downs. needed our #1 running back and wide receivers all game. also agree, the qb position is holding us back

Who are our equipment people and why can't they properly apply helmet stripes without all the gaps and bubbles particularly on the bottom of the back???:frustrated:

Im decently happy with how we played today, given how it could have been...but my god our qbs are terrible. All three of them. Cam is a worse passer than Crouch, which I didn't think was possible. Hands down the biggest thing holding us back.

A few marching Illini got kicked out of the game today for playing war chant in the stands.

Our offense is in tatters, health-wise, so I really can't say anything bad about it with the exception of the QB situation - can we at least not be subbing these guys mid-series?

2 QBs is never a good setup but we seem intent on making it as bad as it can possibly be.

Agree. I don't like using 2 qb's really but, if we are I would prefer to do it a whole series at a time.

I was there freezing my you-know-what off. Many people left because of the weather. Because of that, the crowd was not happy at all with the NFL-like move to call repeated time outs at the end of the 2nd quarter to "ice", literally, the Wisconsin kicker. 3 gol dang time outs. And the kicker made the FG anyway. Geez Lovie, have mercy on us in the stands.

The biggest thing that lost us the game was the team's decision to alternate QBs sometimes in the same set of downs. And often, Cam would make good plays on 1st and 2nd down, the JGJ would come in and botch everything. How can this strategy ever be thought to give us any chance at all to win. I would rather have Cam in the whole game, and take JGJ's helmet away. Folks, every time he went in there, something bad happened.

I don’t blame McGee for the interceptions. They are inexperienced and with regard to George limited in talent. There’s a reason George didn’t start the season. Actually, I give the coaching staff kudos for gameplanning and keeping the kids fighting. Better days are coming.

Totally agree. Still happy with the effort especially from the defense, I thought they played great.

If we didn't get that illegal substitution call this could have been a very different game.

If we didn't keep getting 3 and outs from our offense after a defensive stand, this could have been a very different game.

At the end of the game, Cam threw to the right sideline into double coverage. Then he threw to the left sideline into double coverage, and an interception. I had my eye on him from the stands on that one and as soon as he cocked his arm, I said this is an interception. So they must be teaching, in film session, to look for double coverage on the sidelines and let 'er rip.

I hate to be this guy but Ligs needed to be gone yesterday. ST, outside of those couple blocks at the beginning of the year, have been a total disaster.

Harken back to the days not so long ago of the Zook and Beckman eras. We could not cover a kick to save our soul. Now we cover kicks every time. We have a good FG kicker and a fantastic punter.

With all due respect, Lovie cannot be concerns about the cold fans. Heck, if you're cold, don't ya think that kicker would get cold?

Didn't work this time, but I believe it did work before. What's he going to do with those time outs anyway?

Maybe he was burning them to help keep the fans warm :D

Marching Alumi band haha. I should have specified that.

Still sucks for them, but they should’ve known better... especially if they were told not to do it.

Or, they should’ve showed up and played it for the protestors at the parade on Friday. I bet they would’ve loved it. :p

Get this. Ohio State edges Penn State and moves up to third in the AP poll, and Penn State drops to 7th. Wisconsin struggles to beat a bunch of high school kids and moves from 5th to 4th?

Well, let's take that as a compliment. Beating Illinois will move you up in the AP poll. It must be an accomplishment. Thanks, AP.

TCU lost, everyone moved up, except OSU jumped people.

You don't usually move down after a victory, no matter who you beat, or how by how little you won.

I find it humorous, actually. As one Badger fan put it, considering the age and experience of our guys, they beat a high-school all-star squad, and not very impressively. The comments on this "grading the Badgers" article are priceless. https://www.buckys5thquarter.com/20...rades-alex-hornibrook-alec-james-joe-ferguson

The official UW sites review of the game said that Wisconsin "holds off" Illinois. That's a long way from the trouncing that the we-don'-need-no-stinkin'-Badgers were expected to given our guys. No doubt there's a bit of noblesse oblige in that, but the eval was pretty darn close to how the game played out. http://www.uwbadgers.com/news/2017/...aten-thanks-to-24-10-victory-vs-illinois.aspx

Still, you have to wonder how the rest of the game would have played out had one pass been caught and one illegal substitution not been made. We were at least fingertips away from a 17 point total against what is now considered by the best sports writers in the country the fourth best college football team in the country.
