Been caring less and less to watch this season's debacle, and the mess that is masquerading as the Illini basketball team

The good news is we have three games left vs. Minnesota and Rutgers. The bad news is they may not be sure things.

Just don't have enough horses to compete. If the shooting is not hot for our go-to guys, there is no one else to step up. Can not win a game with MH alone. Nunn showed flashes but was not the same once he took that knee.

On the bright side, I think this is the closest margin of defeat we've had in the Groce era against Wisconsin. On the other hand Wisconsin isn't a good team and we are really quite putrid to watch.

Finke going down had a big impact on the way we could finish out. Nothing left inside, and also takes away a 3pt threat.

This team's still got fight though.

We just don't have the talent healthy to win without extreme defensive intensity, and because of the same injuries we don't have the depth to maintain that needed intensity. When we can do it for spurts we look good. In a game like purdue we were able to overcome the lulls with superior shooting, but that's just not feasible every game. Guys get wore out on d, don't get the breather they need, and the ball starts sticking on offense, tired legs getting no lift on jumpers, etc. The injuries just have a massive trickle down effect on every aspect of the game.

Just get experience and improvement for the freshman and Mav.

I love this team. And I honestly do feel like they are fighting and giving their best. But man oh man, is this frustrating!!

Tough to watch cause I know the effort from the guys is there. Guess we could only hope next year we get healthy, TJL surprises some people, and we get a decent 5th year transfer. Wish Groce would shake some things up this season

you must be looking at KenPom. that's his prediction even before this game

I actually hadn't. But I just looked at our schedule and assumed we would beat Rutgers twice and Minnesota. Other than that, I'm not hopeful about any other games

Because of injuries, recruiting mistakes, and bad luck, we no longer have a B1G-quality roster. It's hard to watch Malcolm Hill and Kendrick Nunn try so hard to carry this team.

Honestly I really don't see how this team would be significantly better with Abrams and black. There are substantial lineup holes but more importantly there are huge gaping holes in our all around game planning and schemes.

I agree. I'll still be watching, but the last couple games have really forced me to the realization that you just can't be competitive in this league with backups playing starter minutes and no depth. This team is worn down physically and mentally. I'm seeing improvement from the freshmen and also Mav. There are still positives happening, it's just hard to watch.

I'm easy on Groce, especially this season, but there really isn't a reason to have one of Tate or Lewis on the court at all times. These guys give great effort for the team, but they just aren't power 5 point guard options. We have 3 guys in Nunn, Hill and Lands that can be just as effective getting us into an offense.
