we are number 1 in overtime losses this year. Not a great offensive showing today either by our standards.
1.171 points per possession. On the season Illinois averages 1.255 (which is 1st in the country).

Another nit is timeout usage. We use this strategy based on ~metrics~ to get a lead, and then ... what? We bank on continuing to make the exact same kind of shots for the rest of the game to, like, double the lead? Well, sometimes that will work like vs. Missouri and USC. But when the other team starts making its run, you can't just keep playing exactly like you were when they weren't making their run, lol. You have to clamp down.
People have been ridiculed for saying this for the past two seasons, but this is the problem when your strategy to win a basketball game rarely is ever more complex than "shoot well, score points, try to have other team score fewer points." We aren't just going to execute offensively at the exact same clip every game, let alone throughout the entirety of a single game. It's easy to mock posters for complaining about a "lack of adjustments" because it's vague, but we all intuitively know it when we see it when a great coach notices a small opening to gain an advantage. It's not like Brad is incapable of doing that, but he just seems intent on us performing in such a way where the other team just can't beat us ... and we aren't always going to perform that way. And when we don't, we have to be quick on our feet.
We are playing with fire in the NCAA Tournament. We very well might play amazingly and get hot and go on a deep run ... but I have almost no faith that we will grind out a win on an off day. And those aren't great odds come March Madness, because you'll have an off day eventually.
Unlike button but Brad has to own this frwe are number 1 in overtime losses this year.
I am not calling for his firing. But just because our performance in the post-season before Underwood was so abysmal, does not make his performance in the post-season to date acceptable.
If we keeping playing like this he will get lots of rest starting next weekend.I think Keaton needs to rest. He isnt shooting 3s or free throws close to earlier this year and increased TOs, 1 of 6 from 3 today and key missed FTs.
There is a 0% chance we get a twoAssuming we get a 2
Your right we have a 7 footer who thinks he is a point guard we let the wrong big man goFebruary 28th: “This current Illini team has NO street-ball toughness... The Illini are trying to Euro-Their-Way to a National Title and that ain’t gonna happen. The Euro game is fine but inherently soft. Without street-ball toughness this reveals an Illini weakness. You cannot just finesse your way to a Final Four. This is not a dance competition... The Illini are sliding at a time when they need momentum into the Tournaments.”

Today:
It seems the Fighting Illini (and Coaching staff) all have Headaches... NOT from the loss today but from all this hitting their heads UP AGAINST the Glass Ceiling that keeps them from joining the Upper Elite (year after year).
Can anybody find some Ball Toughness? Or is it like they say... "You Are What You Are".
I will be surprised with a sweet 16. God forbid we get Miami Ohio. They don’t have nuns, do they?I’ll be happy with a sweet 16 at this point
Thanks for the public service announcement…Think it would be good for some of you to log off Loyalty for the week.
Vibes are low but man some of the things I’m seeing here are ridiculous. We got jobbed. No question about it.
I think that is how they’re coached. Obviously they’re coached to throw it back out but these guys have the size and at least some ability so coach them to be tough and take it up and rebound tough.Furthermore, there is nothing in the offensive arsenal to run something that frees up a player in the posat via the pass.
Oh hey, a stat that matterswe are number 1 in overtime losses this year.
I will leave the couch for nothing less than a vodka tonic, double tall with a limeI’ll be drowning my sorrows in the West Loop so of you find me I’ll buy you a pop
Question
In the first seconds, our best guard goes Mano a Mano against their best guard and WINS the encounter
Both get technicals for jawing
We bench our guy and their guy lights us up for 30+
Which coach won that battle?
Boyd only did good because we did not play effectively. Bigs Should not be on the perimeter. Keaton needs rest sometimes because he is playing the way upperclassmen should be. Boyd is good but we were forced to play catch up. Should not have been. I hope Keaton stays. Not sure what to say about Brad.I think Kylan thought he did. Turns out it was only 1 play and then he got his own !!! taken out. Boyd is really good. There was zero reason to do that today. I hated to see him and his self adulation, but we set him up for that. I’m still looking for slow foot Tomi. You seen him?
I wish he would stay another year to build strength. But…One of my big frustrations is that Wagler, as great as he has been & I can't imagine how bad this team would be without him, has a tendency to take some really dumb shots at key moments of the game. Today it was a 23 ft contested 3 right when WI was reclaiming momentum. In those moments you need a bucket to stem the tide and keep the lead at 10-12 pts. Instead, we miss a few 3s, they get on a run, and then we don't have the toughness to win a tight one.
