Honestly - I've never felt more rug-pulled or robbed of should-be reality than I do as an Illinois basketball fan

It goes all of the way back to the 1984 Regional Final vs Kentucky

Then the Flyin' Illini in '89

Deon Thomas stuff

Sean May

Bruce Weber tailing off into John Groce's tenure

Loyola Illinois

Covid tournament canceled

TSJ allegations

Whatever peruvian fruit bat flu we had last season

And now a b2b Jeremy Fears 'poor old Jeremy redemption tour' plus another injured starter and whatever I just watched this evening

Bruce Pearl is really running the simulation, isn't he?

ISNT HE
I'm convinced that after the Louisville game we won in the '05 Final Four to advance to play UNC, we were swapped into an alternate universe where being an Illini basketball fan is like being in love with a girl who's your best friend and, while you might make out with each other from time to time, you're really never getting out of the friend zone and have to watch her date other guys, hoping you'll one day marry her, but that day never comes(yes, I have personal experience with this and PTSD).

The universe we left, the Illini crushed UNC and we've won 14 of the past 20 NCAA tournaments.

Where was Petro? He might have neutralized some of their guard quickness.
I've gotta say, the number of fans asking for Petro to not be on the bench is sorta crazy. It'd be like in 2005 people begging Weber to play Nick Smith 20 minutes a game. Difference is, hilariously enough, Nick Smith actually had better metrics than Petro does currently.

I hate continuously bringing this up but:

Team without Petro:
Offense: 1.29ppp (85ppg)
Defense: 1.04ppp (68ppg)

Team with Petro contributing
Offense: 0.89ppp (59ppg)
Defense: 1.08ppp (72ppg)

In raw, he's currently considered in the bottom 5% of ALL NCAA players. There's a very big reason he's on the bench and not coming to save us.

I’d bet most people on this board are alumuni that have moved away from CU. Going to the game isn’t an option.
Right. But if they were there, boy, they'd show 'em.

Btw, here we are thinking this team is 10 man deep and with 2 out we played 6.

Pretty damning.
The 10 man deep stuff was always BS. Teams just don’t have that at this level. Not every recruit or transfer is going to hit. Brad has done fabulous in roster construction and talent evaluation. Rogers being out all season and then two starters go out. In that situation any team will struggle.

With Boz or Andrej we win by 10. With both we win by 15+. Bigs guarding scoring guards as primary defenders on perimeter is not good.

Can we also not say anything about the refs because we aren’t trained officials or about anyone’s play because we aren’t D1 athletes?? Come on, haha. People are annoyed that our student section literally isn’t being a student section and that our crowd is so noticeably less engaged than other good programs. That should bother all of us … they’re two components of pride that make up our program’s tradition just like any other tradition associated with the university.
If I had a bicycle then a taco would be a hammer. Bill Wennington, Dyan Cannon, Lee Marvin.

He can’t say it and expect people who know basketball to believe it.

There is film of both Lee and Petro before they got here that show their strengths and weakness.

Through their allocation of minutes over the years, they’ve also said a lot about others like Trey, Booth, Morez, Podz, and DGL.

Losses like this are why we don’t get the respect we believe we deserve from guys like Bilas, Lunardi, etc. Just frustrated.

We need Bam back moving forward. It’s mid-Feb this next game and he looked like he could’ve gone tonight. Hopefully AS is ready too. Someone needs to remind him he’s making $3MM and to man TF up.

I’m not sure where the health situation is with Ty Rodgers, but ethically, he should be forced to play when healthy. We’ve been paying him for 2 years and if he doesn’t want to play then kick him off the team…we need him and IDGAS about his eligibility. He sees this team needs his help…people like us have contributed to pay him handsomely and he could help. He should play.

More disappointed with the sad pathetic display by the Krush than anything on the court.

6 man rotation with 1 ball handler. We did a solid game containing a much much quicker Boyd and Blackwell for 30 minutes. Wisconsin missed a ton of makeable shots in first half (38%) and we couldn't have played much better offensively...and we lead by all of 6 at half.

Loss just exposed how much we need creators like AS and Boswell. They are also our best/2nd best perimeter defenders

The injury-prone issues of Andrej Stojaković have become a big problem for our team. When you're investing as much of your NIL into a player as this, you need the player to both perform and stay healthy. Performance has definitely been a mixed bag given the preseason expectations, but the real issue is that he has just not been able to stay on the court.

Who knows what's going to happen next season...whether Andrej and Illinois agree to continue the relationship, but assuming both sides agree to continue our partnership next season, Andrej needs a plan in place to improve his flexibility, strength, balance, etc. so that he doesn't wind up sidelined for 2-3 weeks every time he lands awkwardly or on someone's foot during practice or a game.

You left out Austin Peay.

We actually rebounded them 38-35. FT’s were the difference in this game . . . and the fact that we couldn’t stop a f***in fruit fly from scoring

No offense to Drej but if this was David (based on what he’s said in interviews), I guess we know who would tough it out and try and play to win the game.
Yeah I'm confused and a little disappointed that he didn't at least try to play considering the circumstances and the rest that we have going into the next game. Just start the game see how you feel and go from there but we needed all hands on deck tonight. We're in a conference title race.
