That hook on Tomi was insane if you watch how slow he was to call it. Like he looked at it, the two players were no longer engaged and Tomi took his gather and started to go toward the hoop. Then the guy raises his arm for the call.
Particularly for how often Boyd and Blackwell used their off arms to create space. Felt like they were mostly within the rules, but if you are going to call that on Tomi has to be at least one offensive foul in there.

The medical staff isn’t going to force a kid to sit with a slightly sprained ankle …

The hard part of the whole thing for me is that I guess I just got used to guys toughing it out … Trent played hurt ALL. THE. TIME. … DMFW played hurt … I mean those guys were warriors and I thought that was the standard … EDGs …

Deciding to sit and rest it after playing on it the whole MSU game and practicing … Need this win … At least try and give it a go and if you can’t then hey you tried at least … Just doesn’t sit well with me that there wasn’t even an attempt …

And people can disagree and that’s fine …
There are people who say that after spraining the ankle during the game, adrenaline will get you through. That is 100% correct. You can get into the locker room after the game and it can blow up like a balloon. That's pretty much what happened to Bo Nix. The game was fine, but after the comedown, it obviously wasn't fine.

It's the being able to practice without any mention of incident either after the game, the day off Sunday, Monday during practice and the majority of the day yesterday. Did Brad mention it during his pregame media session? Did anyone see him with a boot on? Speaking personally, two hours before the game was when I saw any sort of word of his potential lack of a availability. Someone in here said that he was warming up and looked to be moving well.

If a guy is injured, then he's injured. Nobody wants to see anyone get seriously hurt because the situation has potential to get worse with activity. If the trainers shut it down, then that's that. You can't play.

If it's a pain tolerance thing and it's 50/50 whether he could be effective enough to fight around/through screens and the trainers asked, "What do you think?".....I lean towards giving it a try. If it's no good after the first run, it's not loosening up and it's a net negative.....give coach the thumbs down and shut it down.

Indy, you're more in the loop than we are and seem fairly irritated, which makes me think he had the green light to give it a shot and it was just a matter of what he could handle. If that's the case, again, I do wonder why he wouldn't try to get lathered up and suck up some minutes.

If there was ANY chance that he'd put at ANY risk by playing....he sits, no questions asked. I would have been ticked, as only a fan, if one of our kids got sent out there in that situation.

I don't think a reporter will probe into that and they probably shouldn't. Take the L, move on and hopefully the time off makes him 100% for Sunday. I'd sacrifice one game for a fully healthy roster going forward. If missing that game ensures it....not fun to lose, but I'll make the trade in a heartbeat.

I mean there's a good chance it cost us the Big ten, a 2 seed, and St. Louis. Its understandable but really damaging.
Losing St. Louis would be the killer. Have to get out of the first weekend and that would have been an enormous advantage. Think we have to win out in the regular season to get back into that consideration.

The grabbing/holding Keaton was insane. Dude is a superstar and gets whistled like he's a freshman who plays 8mpg
It's worse than just grabbing and holding -- they are giving him forearm shivers when he drives and he's not getting the calls. The scouting report on him is to just beat him up and the refs allow it. There was an and-1 where his defender must have elbowed him 2 or 3 times on the drive and they finally called a foul when Keaton was making a circus shot. I love that he's so calm when getting fouled all the time but he's going to be worn down by next month because of Big Ten officiating. Like it's literally not a basketball play to elbow someone in the back who has a step on you so I'm not sure why it's allowed. To me it's approaching a flagrant.

Any defensiveness you're seeing is how you are interpreting it.

As a whole, IMO, State Farm needs to get better. The Athletic Dept. needs to get with Krush and come up with some solutions. Get rid of the announcer trying to pump people up. I think it trains people to wait to be prompted. Is that not what the cheerleaders are for anyway?

My point is, as I have said many times, it's easy to criticize people who are actually at the game while you are sitting in the comfort of your home. It implies, "I would have been loud if I was there." Well, you weren't there. My preference would be for people to use terms like "we" and "us" when talking about the crowds at SFC. Collectively, we have to try to make SFC intimidating again. Collectively, we have to figure out what has seemed to go wrong. It's easy to call out Krush. Well, what can we do? What did we do wrong to get us to this point? The kids are there. They're at the games.

As I have already stated, too, a lot of times a crowd is simply a reflection of their team and the circumstances of the game.
I think the crowd is partly a reflection of the shape of Assembly Hall. Huff Hall would be more intimidating because it's shaped properly for the sport of basketball. I also think endless noise from the PA makes people quieter because how can you possibly compete. I'm so tired of endless PA noise at sporting events. I haven't been to AH for a long time so that observation might not apply. I went to an NFL game this year and the PA was constant and unbearably loud.

Help me understand when in the first half where Jake picks off a pass and goes into our half court and tosses it back to Keaton…. we loose possession based on back court violation. Looks like Walger is in air and on our side of the court.
What am I missing or not seeing? I have rewatched it several times… is there an explanation I am missing?
Purely MO, but that's in Keaton. He needs to bust A $$, hustle and get down the floor. Jake did 100% the right thing by pulling up. He got it to the PG to set the offense. He can't be forced to wait until Keaton jogs past mid court. You assume your teammate is in position to accept the pass.

It was extremely close, but it's Keaton's job to get up there to receive the ball and not Jake's to sit and wait to get on Keaton's schedule. That was irritating, but again...just my take on the play. That was a pure lack of focus and effort.

Chicago espn 1000 calling out home crowd as pathetic. And they never cover the illini unless we are final 4 good. So that's some kind of special shaming for our home crowd. My theory is that we are weeding out the fans that would be die hards in the admissions process and just letting in smart bookish students who dont know how to cheer. They looked too nervous to cheer at the end of the game when it was on the line. They need to fix this home crowd situation.

And my theory is more of a joke but the problem is real

Step one to improving the cheering from the student section is to stop having the PA announcer lead cheering / try to be such a hype man. When you outsource that stuff to a guy with an amplifier, it is counterproductive. ILL chants should start organically by students or by the cheerleaders. When the announcer says "lets get louuud" at a gazillion decibels the crowd can't compete and doesn't.

Good. Penn State - step on up. You can be the guinea pig for this tryout 😁

All-in-all the coaching by underwood and staff has been very good this year. This team clearly should run zone sometimes and they finally did it. When they had trouble staying in front of people early in the year, they've adjusted. Offensively, they've even done a little more than their standard 2 man game with 3 guys standing around (although mostly that's all it's been).

He is for sure playing wagler too much. He also shouldn't have been 6 deep that game, even though they are missing two guys. A player should basically never play 44 minutes in a game. It's a bad idea and a recipe for an injury. Granted, maybe they risk a loss by playing petrovic for 15 minutes, but then they gotta risk that loss. They lost the game anyway. Being ready for the home stretch, the big ten tourney, and the NCAA tournament are the most important things even though a Big Ten Championship also matters. They need to get wagler down to 35 minutes a game (pre-OT), with him playing like 32 minutes a game in games where they lead the whole/most of the way. Wagler played 38 minutes against Washington even though they led the whole way.

You have to establish yourself in the frontcourt on the ground. Just like an out-of-bounds. You aren't back in bounds until you get your feet in bounds.

I'm just really pissed off and frustrated! As usual, lack of adjustments by Underwood and Co! Horrible loss! Even though you're not healthy, you had several bodies on the bench that could have come in and tried to play defense against their guards and rested some of your starters! You can't lose that game at home, PERIOD!!! Bye, bye Big 10 Championship and hello a 3 seed, at least for now!

Preaching to the choir, friend.

It's the #1 reason I dread going to any sporting event. The loud PA announcer and the obnoxious music. I'd offer further analysis, but I don't want to get banned.

So on the officiating, Keaton has been so incredible this year and teams have tried everything, switching, blitzing, etc. and nothing has worked. And so it seems like the scout now is to beat the **** out of him knowing the refs can’t call a foul on every play, and even that doesn’t really bother him with the exception of the Michigan State game. And I know Brad brought up other non calls but I just wonder if it’s frustration boiling over with the way his all American level PG is getting manhandled. He’s got to stick up for and protect his guy. But Brad also has to protect him too. I think the missed free throws and some of the turnovers are the result of Keaton getting worn down a bit. He has been carrying the team since Kylan’s been out and he’s still a skinny frosh, albeit tough as hell.

Sounds like there’s a good chance Kylan and Andrej will be back for Sunday. Let’s get them up to speed and I really think we need to mix in Lee for just a few minutes on the west coast trip and try and cap Keaton at 32-33 MPG. And then have a good period of rest and practice before Michigan and the end of the year.

Sadly think conference title is a long shot at this point. Let’s preserve Keaton’s legs and go on a run in March.

Officiating in this league is a joke … It’s been AWFUL this season …

Not just for these last two games for us … Across the league …
You would think with all the money the BigTen makes they would hire full time officials

What slows Fears down is setting the f’ing tone with him …

Foul the 💩 out of him … I’m just waiting on a player/coach to figure that out …

Teams had him figured out when he was at LaLu … Get in his head … Set the tone …

Feliz, Trent, DMFW would’ve had him miserable …
We don’t have that player on our roster unless Boswell would get into his head

Not to drone on about it, but I just thought the officiating was even worse last night than it was against Michigan St.

Started with a touch foul on Wagler in the 1H.

Guy that hits Mirk in the face: how does that not get called?

The ignorant jump ball call on a block took a pretty much guaranteed 2 points away from us.

Keaton just gets blatantly pushed out of bounds by #31 on a live rebound... play on and its a 5 on 4 at the other end because he's laying on the floor.

3 goaltends, unsure how many were clear but they messed up at least one of those too.

The missed 10 second call was terrible, everybody in the arena saw it and was screaming about it... Wisconsin bench was yelling and motioning to hurry... absolutely zero way 3 officials did not see this, they obviously CHOSE NOT TO call it.

The hook call on Tomi, I thought was a weak call even though probably correct. Those discards don't usually get called unless the offensive player gains a clear advantage by doing it.

This is all not to mention I think Keaton may need to start embellishing or selling some of the contact more on drives. Not saying flop, but he drew 9 fouls last night and it should have been like 12 (probably more).
Bigger question to me on the bolded above: How does an official stop play to go immediately to a review for a flagrant foul, without first calling a common foul? And then come to the conclusion that no foul can be called whatsoever, and it's essentially just an inadvertent whistle and ball out of bounds. Meanwhile, our guy has a bloody nose.

I don’t disagree he hasnt been given a shot, but I don’t see practice.

And ball handling isn’t the only metric here.
People said Podz sucked in practice, Damonte was better than Griffin and Mihailo sucks too. Well is the league where he played "elite" and was considered a stud a good league? Arent Frank Kamisky and numerous other very good players tjere he excelled against? I mean we have 3 guys playing that were role players in that league where Mihailo excelled in. Now, i think Kylan and Wagler are far better plauers but with 2 starters out then he was still capable of playing 5 minutes when guys are gased, Mirk and Wagler are turning it over once ever 5 minutes and wore out missing free throws.

Plus, why not play through Tomi in the post. He was killing em. Brad is far from.perfect and that loss is on him. Even with guys out we shouldve won. The line up of Big T, Z, Mirk, Jake and Ben is the slowest line up that i have ever seen in all my years on the court and while tall they were to slow to the long boards. Keaton is a great player but not super quick either to loose balls. Brad needs to own up. He messed up. "I liked our length". Did he like how slow we were even before they were gased?
