I haven’t posted here in a LONG time, but I am still really angry about last night. I almost lost a big screen TV and I scared the crap out of our sweet dog. 😂

Question: How does the injury designation/game availability stuff get addressed? Is that a medical staff decision? Player? Coach? Everyone?

Let me preface this by saying I am not trying to kill the guy and I am certainly not a doctor. However, if Andrej was good enough to practice and was listed as questionable and not out, he HAS to at least give it a go and if he’s not moving well or risking further injury, then you can take him out.

JMHO, when you are down to 6 guys you have to TRY to play and give whatever you can. If you wind up having to exit early, so be it. At least you tried.
Wrong

One thing that drove me crazy late in the game was Tomi and others sagging into the lane to help when Big Z was in the game. That left the three point shooters open, especially Rapp, who wasn't gonna blow by you. Stay with the shooters on the perimeter and trust Z to protect the rim. I always feel so much more confident about the defense when he is in the game.

Purely MO, but that's in Keaton. He needs to bust A $$, hustle and get down the floor. Jake did 100% the right thing by pulling up. He got it to the PG to set the offense. He can't be forced to wait until Keaton jogs past mid court. You assume your teammate is in position to accept the pass.

It was extremely close, but it's Keaton's job to get up there to receive the ball and not Jake's to sit and wait to get on Keaton's schedule. That was irritating, but again...just my take on the play. That was a pure lack of focus and effort.
Bolded: Yeah, it really is.

I would think Underwood not playing him is a pretty clear statement that he thinks he's unplayable.
I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

I think it’s pretty clear he thinks something of him, but thinking he is unplayable is too easy of an explanation.

His process for playing time isn’t about playable. His history of benching several players refutes that. His history for giving PT to players over others who leave and flourish (and go to the NBA) refutes that.

In this new world of NIL and revenue sharing, wasting money on roster players to sit the bench and not to develop and play them is a bad look when asking for money for players.

Anyone who watched Wisconsin beat Michigan which i did, would realize their guards would be tough on us even at full strength let alone being possibly 2 of our top 3 players, we had no chance of guarding that speed for 40 minutes let alone 45. Just facts.... like Indy mention in one thread we blew it on the eval on MP , maybe if he got here this summer it might have helped but he would have been completely useless last night. Brandon Lee is what pisses me off, yes he was slowed by the ankle but BU has had ample time and games to have given him more minutes so he was a possible sub by this time of the year when legs get tired.

Well for some reason it’s not a thing for Izzo. That’s def part of it being “a thing”.

I asked gemini "Illini lost to wisconsin while shooting 53% and 45% from 3p..Has illini ever lost in the last 20 years with those offensive percentage?

Gemini answer: No, Illinois has never lost a game in the last 20 years while shooting that well from both the field and three-point range.

Further analysis from gemini:

Why did they lose?
.....a few critical factors flipped the game:

Turnovers: Illinois gave it up 13 times (a Big Ten season high), while Wisconsin only turned it over 4 times. The Badgers turned those mistakes into 23 points.

Free Throws: The Illini entered as a top-5 national free-throw team but struggled mightily, going just 11-of-19 (57.9%).

Defensive Rebounding: Illinois allowed 13 offensive rebounds, giving Wisconsin 12 second-chance points and allowing them to take 16 more shots than the Illini.

Wondering too if Z’s mask robs a bit of his vision. Seems like he didn’t react right to a KW pass at the rim and rebounds that went to the floor. Although Tomi has that trouble too without a mask.

So, I want to say upfront that I did not read the last 5 pages of the game thread or any of this postgame thread yet. I probably never will. I was so upset at the end of the game last night that I couldn’t sleep. Then I probably woke up at least 5 times. After 22 hours or so to cool down, I’m finally close to rational and able to express my thoughts without ranting. I’m not going to talk about the officiating or the coaching. If what I write has already been expressed, I’m sorry for being repetitive. I’m focusing on thinking that this team just needs its full compliment of players to reach its full potential. As much as I think Tomi and Ben are good leaders, they are just not strong enough in their roles to overcome Keaton and Mirk freshman mistakes. The meltdowns in the past two games seemed to be due to lack of leadership and experience. The Illini must have both Kylan and Andrej to keep the team steady and confident to finish games without letdowns. I feel in my gut that the Illini can still be a special team, but they need everyone to play to get there. Get healthy, Illini, and be what Illini Nation knows you can be: ELITE.

We had 6-6" (not named Wagler) and 6-9", not to mention a couple 7+-footers trying to keep up with quick guards. They are just slower to loose balls and long rebounds.

Then, our drop coverage led to top of the key three-pointers by one of the streakiest shooters in the land (Rapp). He was "on".

Question: Did we play even a minute of zone? Was looking for some iteration but after our bigs kept getting smoked by their quick guards, I thought we'd see something change.
Andrej not being able to play made a big difference for us on both ends of the floor. While he is not as quick as the whisky gaurds at 6'7 he can stay close enough to bother their shots. There's been lots of times this year somebody got by him going to the basket thinking they were going to get a layup or easy shot only to have Andrej block it. A little bit like what TSJ used to do only not quite as emphatically.

I had the same sleepless night you did , my sister...............no desire to read the post game thread , but unlike you , I had to comment about the refs...........I don't feel any better about the last 2 games and the reffing.....BU summed up how I feel by his answer to the last question in his presser..............

I was cussing so much about those 2 plays in regarding the hop before the timeout call by Wynter , total travelling and then the 10 second non call.........................d j bald head ref was at his usual dismal self........Mr. Review .....loves that camera face time .....scares children and small animals with his hideous facial features.........

Preaching to the choir, friend.

It's the #1 reason I dread going to any sporting event. The loud PA announcer and the obnoxious music. I'd offer further analysis, but I don't want to get banned.
It has filtered down to the high school level in both football and basketball. I follow a high school with slightly more than 400 students.

The grabbing/holding Keaton was insane. Dude is a superstar and gets whistled like he's a freshman who plays 8mpg
Yes the refs gotta stop with the freshman treatment already. Especially when he is likely to an All American. They should be protecting a valuable big10 asset. The big front office should be giving these officials a WTF talking to.

Nothing we have seen in the last 2 games is unfixable. just fix it.

Jake pass that was a sure dunk just went right through his hands at the 5:40 mark. I definitely think his vision is affected. Also I think he said earlier that this is the first time in his life he’s used any sort of corrective eyewear (unrelated to the nose injury).

It's worse than just grabbing and holding -- they are giving him forearm shivers when he drives and he's not getting the calls. The scouting report on him is to just beat him up and the refs allow it. There was an and-1 where his defender must have elbowed him 2 or 3 times on the drive and they finally called a foul when Keaton was making a circus shot. I love that he's so calm when getting fouled all the time but he's going to be worn down by next month because of Big Ten officiating. Like it's literally not a basketball play to elbow someone in the back who has a step on you so I'm not sure why it's allowed. To me it's approaching a flagrant.
With some of the calls and no calls around the league it makes you wonder if the $$$ involved in sports betting is having a dark influence on some calls

Bolded: What, one guy? That is the trend?

The fix is getting Kylan and Andrej back. Both those guys being out makes it pretty difficult to beat a Division 1 team.
I don't think anything is broken. We lost 2 close games in OT. The first one we were out rebounded by 10 and second game we make 80% of our foul shots and we win. But yes, with those two back we are very tough.
