Is it OK to root for the Iowa women's team, or do I need therapy.
You Cant See Me College Basketball GIF by NCAA March Madness

Not sure what that means. But I stand by it as my answer.

Unless I missed it, it is hard to believe there has not been a single lane violation called against South Carolina.
Wouldn’t be an Illinois thread without carping at the refs! But I agree, refs gave SC every call down the stretch. That ‘held ball’ where the Iowa player was thrown to the ground was egregious.

Just for fun I looked up the Iowa NCAA women's basketball FT% on ESPN for the year and it is 76.1% versus our men's basketball FT% of 68.0%. Pure set shooting they beat us by a comfortable margin. So why can't our men's team do better? As someone said on here the other day, maybe we need a free throw coach or more practice!
Free throw shooting does not depend on strength, size or speed… Why is it surprising that women can shoot as well (or better) than men?

If anything, free throw shooting success seems to be inversely related to height.

I can tell you they would smoke 98% of the dudes on this planet 🤣
And I'd take the over on that.
According to my math, that still leaves 80 million males (2% of 4 billion)….I’d actually take over 99% (40 million dudes) on that bet.

The LSU coach has interesting outfits.
She can def afford designer outfits of her choice…Her 8 year contract starts at $2.5/million a year before incentive bonuses…which will be very high this year!

As I said earlier in the thread, women don't have the muscle or athletic ability of men. I believe the men's game has de-emphasized FT shooting versus dunks/threes/ and spectacular plays. It just takes practice for most people to hit 75% or greater (see Dick Vitale). I never played College BBall, but played on a HS team that placed 3rd in the state and nearly every guy on the team hit +70%. Not hard to do if you have proper motion and practice from an early age.

I've been a fan of women's basketball for nearly 30 years. Kim typically dresses like a hoochee momma.

But she knows how to coach.
Spot on!

There are certain players/coaches I enjoy on the court but care less about some of their stances off the court....Mulkey fits the bill for me

Iowa/South Carolina game was most exciting women's basketball game I watched in many years

Certainly can’t argue with 9 wins year prior to her arrival to NCAA round 2 to Finals and possible national title. Of course that’s on the heels of tremendous tourney success and 2 or 3 national titles at Baylor. I mean I don’t follow women’s bball much and I’ve heard of her. If LSU wins Sunday, would she be first to win women’s title at two different schools?

Exactly. She's a heck of a coach.

The obvious reason is the women use a smaller ball with the same size rim. So there is a larger margin of error on every shot that would allow the ball to still go in.

I disagree. I think that the men struggle mainly because of the size of their hands. Some of them might feel like they are shooting a tennis ball rather than a basketball. When they are 3 foot from the basket they can use the palm of their hand to push the ball. At the free throw line it is a whole different ballgame.

As much as it pains me to say this and it was said before by another poster, I am pulling for the female idiots to win tomorrow so we can say we beat the 2023 WBB national champs...........Another milestone in the WBB Illini's tremendous year and a return to being competitive again.....Also # 1, next season looks very promising with the number of returning players and a couple of high major recruits coming in ..............Also # 2 , we should be looking for some height down low as that was a detriment for this years squad.....

LETS GO LADY'S FIGHTING ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From someone who use to hate women's basketball, I've changed my mind after watching a couple games this year. The Iowa vs South Carolina was a blast to watch. Clark is amazing, a once in a generation type player. If you get a chance to watch the woman's championship game, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
She absolutely took that game over in the fourth quarter. Amazing to watch.

The LSU coach has interesting outfits.
I just read up about it - she and the athletic department has an arrangement with one or more fashion designers for her to wear these outfits on the court side at games .

it’s her thing and she pulls it off .
and her teams win while she does it

I've never watched a woman play basketball and think "that would be a tough cover if I were to play defense on her." Caitlyn Clark is a different deal. Plus, she looks quite unassuming. She's just a stone cold assassin.

I'll be interested to tune in to the championship. The LSU coach is nuts and Clark is a fun watch. So those things seem to make it interesting enough.
