Official crowd at #Huff tonight for #Illini volleyball vs. #Boilers -- 4,261. Around 500 people were turned away at the door.

Awesome match tonight! I was worried it was gonna go to 5, not sure I could have handled that after the football game this morning.

We looked shaky at times, McMahon stepped up, that was the biggest thing I saw. We handled ourselves well in the 4th. Brought in Cold blooded Jazz, got a lucky call and pulled it out! love the atmosphere, hope every game is like the rest of the way...

There is no reason Huff shouldn't be filled to capacity the rest of the way at least once per weekend, right?

Glad for the win, but there is a squeaky wheel that needs to get fixed!

I agree with you, but we'll see what happens when it's not get in free with your football ticket. If they continue to win most of their games, I think the reserved seating will continue to sell out.

They will need to play even better if they want to still be undefeated at this time next week. Winning at tOSU won't be easy. Winning at PSU would be epic.

I know a few of the die-hards including willini will be at the road games this weekend. Won't be any weekends the rest of the way where it's easy to stay undefeated, that's for sure.

Haha, I guess we'll see. The way the big ten seems to work out is, win at home and pray for a steal on the road. If we can get a couple on the road it would be huge. Planning on a couple road trips to see if we can help our girls to a victory. This weekend especially...

Heck if they keep it going I'm thinking they need to consider Assembly Hall

That theory about praying for a win on the road is definitely the way the coaches talk about it, and it's the way you play if you are hoping to finish second or third in the conference. However, the team that wins the Big Ten usually wins the majority of their matches on the road--so if you want to win the Big Ten, you have to win most of the roadies and not lose any at home. (That's why winning the Big Ten is so hard!)

If you can make it to Penn State, have a great time. Traveling that far is a commitment!

If the program grows enough, they might do a special match there annually, but the Assembly Hall as a regular venue is probably not desirable because 3000 or so in Huff is a madhouse, but the same number sounds like a tomb in the Assembly Hall.

And Then There was One...

Top-ranked Illini edge No. 12 Purdue to remain as nation's last unbeaten team.

The buzz about the No. 1 ranked Illini volleyball reached another crescendo on Saturday night. A standing room only crowd of 4,261 jammed to the rafters at Huff Hall, the second largest volleyball crowd in the building's history, to witness the last two undefeated teams in the nation square off. Three of the four sets went down to the final swing and Illinois held off 12th-ranked Purdue 26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23. Illinois moves to 15-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten ahead of trips to No. 24 Ohio State and No. 9 Penn State next weekend. Purdue falls to 14-1, 3-1 in the league.

"It's like having a seventh person out on the court," junior setter Annie Luhrsen said of the capacity crowd. "It gives us an advantage in a lot of ways and it's such a positive atmosphere. Volleyball is a game of energy and it's all about who has more of it. (The crowd) helps us win and keep moving forward. It really made a difference tonight."

I concur, and it's good to have a JP in the volleyball thread

Last night it was fun to arrive 30 minutes early and have to scramble to find a decent non-obstructed seat

Yeah I got there at 6:45 and they were starting to turn people away, but there was a couple people who went to the Southernmost door on 4th St and I followed them in and ended up standing behind the North end and they brought out some extra chairs after the 1st set.

Did anyone post anything about BP3 rushing the field after the FB team finished off NU this past weekend? I saw a picture and he looked so goofy just running on the field by himself. I swear, he's such a character haha.

Oh, and congrats ladies! Great weekend!
